i think india and pakistan have enough nuke to wipe each other and the countries surrounding them out if a war breaks out(unlikely anyway), why are they spending more money on it? instead they must invest in social welfare which is much needed.

Why do you think so! Do you think we need to look to Pakistan only for our security augmentation. Why not China? Any reasons?

There are two different things : First is numbers and second is modernisation.

From the satellite pictures recently taken shows pakistan is making second facility which will help it to churn more weapons grade plutonium. May be pak wants to increase its weapons number to overwhelm the BMD.

In case of India, they fixed the number to 60-70 and now they are focusing on making them more compact and reliable. Without credible delivery systems , nuclear weapons is not very effective as a deterrent and thus India is working very hard to get some.

Since India posses high performance supercomputers and data from 1998 explosions, to check the new designs they rely on sub-critical testing.

Pakistan and China is only country for which India keeping its deterrent. 60-70 nukes are more than enough, so the focus is on credible nuclear traid and BMD deployment.

India has 17 operational nuclear reactors and 6 under construction ones.

Pakistan has 2 operational and 5 under construction.

India produces 3800MWs of electricity through it.
Pakistan produces 425 MWs through them.

So answer is simple and clear India's focus is more on energy needs while Pakistan wants more nuclear war heads.

Yeah answer is simple, india produce electricity with her plants and pakistan produce plutonium grade nuclear weapons!

Its may be true that Pakistan's nuclear arsenal would overtake India but what astonished me is Pakistan's nuclear technologies, power generation capabilities, research facilities and number of reactors are many times smaller and less advanced than India's so how it is possible to overtake? While only with few reactors how Pakistan can build such number of weapons while we even building our own closed cycle reactor technologies but can't built comparable number of nukes wrt Pakistan? Can anyone answer these?

Anyway we drastically need to increase number of nukes and govt should more focus on this.

Why do you want GOI to waste precious Tax Payers money on more Nukes.

Whatever small arsenal is there is sufficient for our cause.

Do you know how many nukes we have? Do you know how many does Pakistan, China have? Or how many US, Russia, France, UK have? Now why should India have smallest among these?

If our small number of nukes can be taken care by the enemies than whats is the point of having nuke at all when we can't have a credible deterrence?

If you talk about tax payers money than GoI wastes more in many other cases than defence, even some years MoD can't spend all the money allocated!!!

The only solution in this case is to have SSBNs. That way we can be assured of nucleared tipped ballistic missiles ready 24x7. Then we don;t have to speculate as to how many warheads we have and how many have been assembles and integrated into missile.

Because after inducting SSBNs we will know exactly how many launch tubes each sub has and the number of missile with nukes there off per sub.


With SSBNs we will be assured of as to the number of warheads we can send towards enemy territory without any speculation.
