The show is certainly a show of fake patriotism...

Why do you think marines in drills and parades carry the M-1, when they have much more advanced and lighter M-4s now ? Somethings are tradition.......This is tradition.........and I for one will not let it go...........I was actually preparing a petition against it's discontinuation, glad to see the decision reversed...........

We have borders with Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar ,China etc..

why are we doing this "thing" only in here
..:what::what:

Like I repeated before, and before that, it's what sets us apart.........Review my Scotsman example and tell me what you think........I value your opinion since I consider you one one of the most sane members on this forum..........

Like I said, compared to the everyday life of soldiers, this is child's play. Hardly risk of any injury here.

I disagree.

a soldier's daily life doesnt consist of war fronts and batle fields.
normally when not at war..soldiers are supposed to keep themselves fit and healthy through healthy physical exercise....this high foot stomp is undoubtedly a bad practice.and injurious to their health if practised daily, unlike other healthy exercises.period.

I fail to understand the difference between the two, it's a display of force in both cases, in one respect it's numbers and equipment in the other, it's the men themselves.

ok..according to your theory...

do you blast the equipments and missles displayed during the parade or the display ?? NO.....then why display men with a practice which is injurious.

You obviously have not lived the life of a soldier or more specifically a Pakistani soldiers, our boys are at all times to be kept in their fighting prime, so they spend their 21 years of service like every one of those days was a war. They are exercised, practice firing, practice battle techniques, take courses, go to Siachen, go to UN missions, fight Taliban in NWFP, Fight BLA in Balochistan, Take courses in conventional/Guerrilla warfare, take part in war games. Stomping your foot 20 odd times a day is nothing compared to this.............

We should delink the 'Beating the Retreat' on our side from theirs. Just do it the way it is done all over the country by the Indian Army. Just lower the flag and shut the gate in a proper military manner. We need to stop this childishness. Let them do what they want. Let them be as aggressive at Wagah as they want.

Don't the NSG do that tip-toe parade ? In which they take their knees almost as high as their chest ? I bet that's not good for your synovial capsules either but I don't see anybody complaining. Plus, it's on voluntary basis, anybody who feels this practice is causing him pain can just say "I can't do it from tomorrow" their is no shortage of men willing to take his place. We have got a soldier there called Tariq, he has been doing this for over 13 years and he's as healthy as a buck.

again..i disagree..I'll tell you why.

may be what you are saying is right, thet your soldiers spend their entire service years as if they are at war and go through extreme conditions..still......I bet even if they practice the same high intensity foot stomp daily at warfronts, they wil injure their foot. and ofourse I know how strong our soldiers are...but am glad that they are not keen on practising this.

personally I blive Israeli soldiers are best trained, more than pakistani or Indians..but even in that case, I can say, they would end up injuring their knees, if this is practised daily.

Exactly my point, you guys can just stop doing this from tomorrow but truth remains, you won't because the BSF and Amritsaris enjoy it as much as we do, and plus you guys get a lot of foreigners. It would be a real loss to you guys............We also get foreigners but very rarely due to the security situation in the country.

I gave you an example, I have been watching Tariq since I was a young lad, he's still at it and kicking like a Stallion..........

I agree with some of the Pakistani members that they can continue to do what they want whether or not India decides to tone it down. That assertion is a bit odd because the whole show is choreographed to have an equal but opposite imagery on the two sides.....but what the heck, it's their choice ! If the Pakistanis refuse to join in toning it down, I think we must completely dissociate ourselves from it. It would be incredibly funny to see one guy puffing up his chest & staring at ....err....nothing! Better still if we attach a large mirror to our gates & automatise them to enable the Pakistanis to growl & stamp their feet at their own reflection.

which NSG are you talking about..?? if its about armed forces day parade, then that happens once a year.

yes, its voluntary, but the point isnt who does it, but how healthy it is.and ofcourse exceptions are always there.

as I said, exceptions are always there, cant argue on the basis of one or two...ther might be many in Indian camp, doing it regularly and not complaining.

What tradition friend? I know enough of traditions. Pakistan has been in existence for all of 63 years. How does a practice which is 63 years old become a tradition? Going by your logic, since our two nations have been at war four times so far and went to war almost immediately after partition, so that should be called a tradition. So why should we even talk of peace? Should we not remain perpetually at war? After all we have a tradition to uphold. Moreover, the entire aura of the Wagah ceremony is totally negative and downright immature. Whether or not foot stamping is injurious to health is really unimportant, if it is a negative, silly and unproductive tradition, it should be scrapped. Why should we protect and continue with traditions which do nothing but breed hatred and false bravado?

.
Obviously we can never solve this issue on basis of IFs and BUTs, so quite simply, if the Indians don't want to do it, they should stop. We want to keep at it, so we will continue.........
