Pakistan Railways crisis: 50 passenger trains closed

but the problem is, even if you have 10000 employees, you do reduce staff, but if you keep the bad eggs still in their place, it does not matter. PR has 90000 employees, so, if it does not want to reduce that number, at least get some professional people in and no more sifarish!

Unfortunately , number of employees on any company payroll does determine the growth , and profits of a company

A company that is not yeilding profits has no right to have 90,000 employees , they are sitting and getting probably 30,000 USD/year in salary plus benefits.

2.7 Billion dollars going for Salaries

Now companies in West on average have 1,000-4,000 employees , and highly successful corporations like apple have 40,000 employees but only after they have 40 billion USD income coming in.

The main problem is people getting Salaries - on Government's expense

If your company cannot make profits you have no Right to demand any salary - when employees realize this simple basics of employee - employer relation they will work hard and make sure they fix the damn wire , and put oil in engines when its suppose to be put.

For a small Railway as Pakistan Railways with 100 Locomotives per train you need about 10 people to operate the train4

That is 1,000 workers, for train Opertaions

For stations you need crew of 10 people per stations , if Pakistan has 400 stations = that is 4,000 workers for stations

So , total 5,000 workers are needed to run such a small scale railway company which incompetent people in Pakistan can't manage to do


So suppose if , some bank finances 2 billion dollars, what happens then is that , the salaries are paid first , and the employees say its business as usual


FACT:
People in Pakistan Use railways
People use it to extent that railways are always full and hard to get tickets
People buy tickets in black market

So question if Rails are full !! Maximum profits ? So why is it

a) Our Railway sells , the "Electrical trains and infrastructure for scrap
b) Why our Railway says that its not good to operate electric trains 50% cheaper
c) Why is it that the facilities setup by Musharraf's gov are let to rot to discredit his good work

So, why are the workers "DEMANDING" things , a person who is employee should not be "DEMANDING" instead they should be "REQUESTING" a bail out.

But 85% of Railway workers should be laid off


Best thing for Pakistan Railways is

a) Fire all workers
b) Get 300 new engines
c) Hire 18-19 year old workers from Schools / Universities
d) Train engineers , with Chinese engineers to maintain Locomotives

Keep number of people to 5,000 workers , 1,000 train operation jobs

With 6,000 workers, Pakistan Railways will make 1000% profit and still function as its function 10 years ago with same efficiency


And SEAL off entry into Railway stations to people with Tickets only
If you do not have Ticket for Train you cannot come in and crowd the stations


With the new profits Railways should Modernize all railway stations

Pakistan produces , marbel and other stones, and time to use these material in Railway stations and modernize them with it.

This is how a station looks like not like the crap we have built 150 years ago by British

Plus put a limit of Bags !!! and carriage that should reduce the need for Qoolis
and chart 100-200 rupees extra for carry on bags

PROBLEM IS WE HAVE 1 BIG ROTI , AND 90,000 PEOPLE QUIETLY EATING it quickly

No one complains because no one wants to loose their share of the rooti


When Pakistan got 300 new locomotives, no one cared for these engines , they played it simple and stayed lazy and did not work hard to make profits now that they have no engines and no money left they are asking like beggars to give money because they have not been paid for 1 month ... well you should have thought about it 2 year ago when reused engine oil was being used to put in brand new engines

Right now , 60-90 engines are just sitting idle because their spare parts have not been ordered

People do not want to fix these engines for 40 million because they want BAIL OUT FOR 3 billion USD from Pakistani Government or some Bank

And worse of all , the Electric Rail lines, infrastructure , is being sold for scrap yard !!! Because then trains will run on Diseal which is 50% more expensive !!!!

Instead of going for Electric Bullet trains we are going backwards !!! Because our old engineers can't operate Electric trains so these material was sold to scrap and is being sold as we speak

nice ideas. The Railway station has not been modernized , since the British left, we have done jack with the railway. Build or renovate better stations, marble floors, electronic schedule boards, better facilities, better ticket booths etc etc.

Railway is never a option for private investor. First thing, it will required very huge investment , ROI is too slow and late .. Bank needs to loan huge sum of money to private investors which can get default . Railway is fro people's welfare .. private company can't compete with transport companies with lower prices.
Government is only option with resources like land and money at their disposal ... only thing you need is better management .. with this state of PR I think one has to change way it operates .. start trains on busy routes with new image and marketing strategy , put new and better infra in place and replicate same across the country

2- The returns are competitive and attractive, though railway fairs are higher than their land transport counterparts, yet the structure, ease and flexibility of railway travel keeps attracting the customer base. We were calculating and roughly a single train from Karachi to lahore potentially earns at least 1 Million PKR a day! net of costs....Honestly, if I were an investor and had money, i would not have second thought for investing in railways. All railways need is good manager and right sized staff, any investor ensuring these two would be able to earn all his investment back in the matter of years.

Railway has become ,not a corporation for profit but a salary maker for 90,000 workers , does not matter if they are working or drinking tea or sleeping on the couch in office they all get paid right !!!

This mentality has led to downfall of Pakistan Railways, with reduced work force 6,000 workers each worker will be forced to stay up and do their work , and get paid accordingly and it will be cheaper operational expense , and also to manage these numbers.

90% of profits are eaten up by Workers , and 10% is then shown as losses , and bad repairs , and we get a negative balance.

Problem is the 90,000 figure of workers , and then its retaining the best assets , hardworking

Each person should be able to do work of 2-3 people only these multitasks should be retained all the Lazy workers should be fired

There is no reason why 20 workers per station is not enough people for Pakistan Railways

There are not that many stations in Pakistan

All these extra
> Coolies
> Food vendors
> Extra visitors on stations (non ticket holders)

Have to be eliminated for 1 passengers 10 relatives come to train stations.

Also there is no reason that Pakistan has ample supply of Marble , Granite , and other beautiful material and yet our stations looks worse then deserted parking lots really its just unimaginable that there is no care for individual stations
