"These kidnappings are probably happening due to severe lack of discipline and carelessness about following protocol. One of the officers whose company got kidnapped in FATA was actually fooled into sitting down in a chair and drinking tea prepared for him by tribals who later disarmed them all."
To quote Warren Oates in STRIPES-
"Lighten up, Francis!"
The suggested abduction of an ambassador and two geologists in two incidents provides no linkage to your tirade about inflicting corporal punishment on miscreant military officers.
In any case, your zeal exceeds your good sense-once again. I am certain that the Pakistani military possesses an equivalent to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. This is the only appropriate channel through which ANY soldier (from the lowest private to Chief of the General Staff) is held accountable by the state.
You've an ambassador that became accustomed to waiving the normal security arrangements for a VIP traveling by vehicle between Islamabad and Kabul. As for the geologists, who knows? Jana might be correct. It could be tribal and these poor guys were from the wrong affiliation. I doubt it, personally.
As for your officers, I'll remind you that a Canadian officer got whacked very early on by a teenager who staved in his skull while sipping tea supposedly under protection. He was. It failed. Sometimes even tribal elders have limited control.
The Canadians reviewed their SOPs. Helmets at all times, armed 360 degree security before any meetings, side-arms present, etc. So too should the responsible army commanders. You don't circumvent the available system of justice and you review and adjust training, SOPs and TTPs to meet new and emerging threats.
