Pakistan needs Musharraf in 2 offices: Arbab

By Shahzad Raza

ISLAMABAD: The international situation requires that President General Pervez Musharraf keep both offices (the presidency and chief of army staff) beyond 2007, said Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Sunday.

The international situation does not favour the country and Musharraf has to keep both offices, Arbab told reporters in the Parliament lobby. There had been politicians in the past who had kept two office during their time, he said. “There is no harm in a person holding more than one office.”

Shaukat Aziz’s performance as prime minister had been excellent and he should be reelected in the 2007 elections, said the chief minister. Pakistan Muslim League leaders will nominate the party’s candidate for prime minister, he said. He added that he was willing to offer Shaukat Aziz many more Sindhi constituencies to contest the 2007 elections.

He rejected the opposition’s demand of establishing an interim government to hold elections. “The opposition usually makes such demands,” he said, adding that the current assemblies would complete their five-year tenures.

Former prime minister Zafarullah Jamali’s suggestion of dividing Punjab into three provinces was right – if the province’s people agreed, said Arbab. He said the current assemblies could elect President Musharraf for another term provided the general elections are held in 2008. There is no role for Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari in Pakistan’s politics, he added.

He said there was no constitutional condition saying that an interim government must be formed three months before general elections.

There is nothing wrong with holding two offices, but it is wrong to hold two major offices which balance each other off!

Musharraf shouldn't overstay his welcomed visit to politics like other Generals did. He should take a note from history as the other generals' situation kept worsening the longer they stayed in power.

Another good point in the article, Punjab should be divided in to three provincess of equal weightage. That way things would calm down and Punjab won't be able to dominate everything.

.
Yeah right like Punjab does dominate everything right now when Musharraf is in power. Musharraf has balanced out the power, and the whole country have their say. If Punjab was the powerful the Kalabagh dam and other dams would already have been created.

well it still does dominate. the Kalabagh dam was postponed not becuase of any decrease in Punjab's power but due to the circumstances. the project is devastating for political future of many politicians.
the delaying or postponment of the project was a wise decision by the president it was going to ruin not only the unity of nation that arises after earthquake but it would had put the very own rule of Musharraf.

How long are they going to delay the project? We cannot handle more delays you know! This is why Musharraf has said either say yes or no, so if there is a no we can always build the other dams, because there is a high risk for the agriculture development in the future if there is no planning for water right now. It will really effect the economy trust me on this.

yeh i knw and we understand this very well but you know when there is injustice with some quarters and appeasment of only one province at the expense of others it will still linger on.
No one can deny the need of big water reserviors for future agricultrual needs bt for that we had not to ignore the smaller provinces.

the same thing had led to so much sense of deprivation that at some point we feel that the provinces r being picthed against each other..

Musharraf fighting US war on Pakistan soil: Qazi
Sunday March 19, 2006 (0431 PST)

PESHAWAR: MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmad has alleged General Pervez Musharraf is fighting US war on Pakistan soil.

"General Musharraf is fighting US war on the soil of Pakistan. Musharraf regime and regimes of rulers like him are major impediment on the way to the enforcement of Islamic order. The Islamic norms and civilization cannot be protected in the presence of these rulers. Therefore, it is the need of hour to rid these regimes", he said this while addressing inauguration ceremony of a new hotel " Dar-e-Hussain Ahmad in Jamia Ashrafia on Saturday.

NWFP senior minister Seraj ul Haq presided over the ceremony. Shabbir Ahmad Khan MNA and Maulana Yusuf Qureshi also spoke on the occasion.

Qazi Hussain Ahmad underscored US was leading evil forces. Muslim rulers have also joined the war waged by US coalition partners and anti Islam forces under US leadership against the truth. On the other hand Islamic movements are heading the caravan of Truth and Muslim masses are standing by their side.

Bush had earlier said that Muslims are good people and his war is not against the Muslim and is only directed against those who want enforcement of Islamic order. In fact this war is a crusade against the Muslims in the words of Bush, he warned.

He went on to say that Taliban had enforced Shariat in Afghanistan, established peace and ensured justice there. But General Musharraf is tracking down and handing over them to US, he charged.

Generals were behind the dismemberment of Pakistan and these generals lost the war which was won in Afghanistan, he accused. Generals have retreated in Kashmir war, he regretted.

And the Mullah speaks again. Maybe he should just restrict himself to his mosque and his sermons because world politics doesn't really seem to be his cup of tea.

Taliban delivered justice and peace prevailed only in their initial days when they wanted to gain the goodwill of the people. THEN, they turned in to monsters! Beheading people in the streets, shooting people at point-blank range (didn't matter if it was men, women or children) and what not. Dragging beheaded and mutilated bodies through the streets, what is this? Medieval world? It is NOT! We DO NOT want anything like that in Pakistan. If God forbid anything like that happens, the moderates will revolt and take these mullahs down for good and then Mr. Qazi would find out the bitter truth, the masses don't stand 'behind' him, they are just scared to stand 'up to' him. An ordinary Pakistani citizen isn't uncivilized and barbaric like the Mullah league and their chumz, the Taliban.

What is happening in South/North Waziristan has to be done to kill or capture each of these religious fanatics who know no rule of law. The MUST change their ways to integrate with the 21st century or perish because they clearly do not show any intentions of a dialogue or give 'n' take approach.

Who knowz why Mr. Qazi is praising Osama these days. New funding for his party from the monster I guess? I'm sure Mr. Qazi wouldn't mind an audit of his party's entire financial dealings to see where the funds come in from and where they go!
