Pakistan navy to conduct large-scale exercises: Naval Chief

KARACHI: Pakistan plans to conduct large-scale naval exercises that would be quite different from the ordinary and traditional ones.

This was said by Naval Chief Admiral Mohammed Afzal Tahir on Saturday while talking to Geo News after giving briefing to Pakistan Air force Air War College officers.

He said that in 2009, Pakistan Navy would be handed the first frigate F22 which was prepared in collaboration with China.

Afzal Tahir said that March Naval Exercises would be conducted in ways different from the common and traditional exercises, adding that the related details would be told in a separate briefing.

Replying a query regarding any likelihood of Indian participation in the exercises, the naval chief said that political harmony is quite essential for this, adding, “as far as I know, nothing like this has happened as yet. Let see how the wind blows.”

If I were to venture a guess, I would say that the PN might involve more of its air assets, now that more of the P-3s are operational. Other than that, I don't know.
