Pakistan navy quits anti-piracy task force amid worsening US ties

PN left the CTF 2 months back.
Now we operate independent of the US Command.

I think PN should start another Task Force with the Russian Navy, PLAN, RSNF, Oman Navy, Sri Lanka Navy in the this region with the TF Headquarters at Gwadar.

The Region covered will be Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, Gulf of Aden till the Equator.

Absolutely important now that we engage countries in the region to start an independent TF. If we do not engage then we'll lose this region to permanent Indian hegemony. This is a blow to be sure.

We do not have enough ships to perform these activities unless our funds are released for 5 years

Sir, can you elaborate on the geo-political ramifications of this development? How does this change the power status in our neighbourhood? What does it imply in terms of movement of foreign military ships within our economic zone? And do we stand to gain more, or lose more? Was this our decision, or were we forced out of the task force?

These TFs do not directly affect foreign Naval ships, as International waters have it's own regulations and EEZ does allow safe passage to all types of ships.

However, this sort of TF will not be acceptable to the US with their bases in Bahrain & Qatar.
India will also be affected as they dream of hegemony on the Indian Ocean.

If Iran also joins such a TF, it will change the scenario of the global deployment of Naval forces. The Russians have always wanted to show their presence in the this part of the world and we can give them a chance as now we are not under pressure from the US.

The base in Gwadar will make it the most strategic base in the entire world.
If Gwadar port is converted into a Strategic naval base sometime in the future, it will enable the PLA Navy & Russian Navy to maintain a permanent presence in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. India’s energy supplies from the Gulf and maritime trade will become highly vulnerable to interception.

Just have a look at this map. These are the Oil transit choke points of the world

1. will KSA allow Iran to join TF and will SL stand against the pressure of india and USA to join that TF?
2. Russian Navy joining PN and PLAN patrol, how much it will affect Russia-india relation?
3. Russian Navy and Chinese Navy joining Pakistan Navy and KSA Navy, will that be an end of USN hegemony in indian ocean and red sea?

  • Includes three Combined Task Forces:
    • CTF 150 (Maritime Security Operations and Counter-Terrorism)
    • CTF 151 (Counter Piracy)
    • CTF 152 (Maritime Security Operations in the Arabian Gulf)
  • 33 member nations: Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, The Philippines, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, United Kingdom, United States and Yemen.

nope

Norway withdrew its only deployed vessel, KNM Fridtjof Nansen several years ago. While in theater she was deployed to the Seychelles along with a contingent from the Norway Navy's special forces branch MJK and KJK.

Also in theater during Operation Ocean Shield were several P-3Cs, but they withdrew prior to the operations end in 2016 and were deployed in Somalia.

KNM Fridtjof Nansen, its contingent of KJK and MJK and the P-3Cs have been home for a few years now, and in the case of KNM Fridtjof Nansen, since 2013 at the latest.

Nansen in Norway in 2016.

I don't believe Norway has any assets currently assigned to counter-piracy operations in the area, though it may still contribute logistical or intelligence support to the combined task forces.

good we should not waste our resources for others

Just read this news on Al-jazeera I could not believe it that why only posting the link and not the text because they are quoting anonymous source. If any one gets any update please post.

So sad. Remembered seeing them working and cooperating together at the naval stations at Bahrain. American sailors said numerously that they would not work with anyone else other than Pakistani sailors there. And Al Jazeera got it wrong that they have taken command since 2013.....I remember in 2012 when they were running the show....

this should be done years ago when USA back stabbed on cutters sale
Don't worry the next allied superpower will do the same to Pakistan.....only a matter of time they realise that being friends and allies are very different in comparison....

Either they fix their issues with US Navy (other than a Donald Trump agenda which harms his own country's navy without him worried about it), or form a Task Force with the mentioned navies other than the Russian Navy. Would preferably not have them in those waters....

The base in Gwadar will make it the most strategic base in the entire world.

Logically, Chabahar has more potential than Gwadar.

And if Pakistan attempts to build a base in Gwadar, the Iranians will meet that threat with their own base in Chabahar. You can actually expect the Russians and Chinese to choose Chabahar instead.

As for India, a much more interesting location compared to Chabahar or Gwadar is Duqm.

If Gwadar port is converted into a Strategic naval base sometime in the future, it will enable the PLA Navy & Russian Navy to maintain a permanent presence in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman.

I understand PLAN, but it's interesting that you think you prefer being surrounded by the Russians from all sides.

India’s energy supplies from the Gulf and maritime trade will become highly vulnerable to interception.

Interesting thought, especially when you consider most of the oil shipments to India are owned by the GCC and Iran. So Pakistan is prepared to intercept Saudi and Iranian ships?

Chabahar has more potential than Gwadar.??? how and why please explain

And if Pakistan attempts to build a base in Gwadar, the Iranians will meet that threat with their own base in Chabahar.? -> why would that be threat to Iran? cant understand, please explain

Military officials believe that CTF nations will feel Pakistan's absence because of its counter-piracy expertise and the Pakistani vessels' access to waters that are not friendly to Western flag-bearing ships.

"Currently, Pakistan provides experienced naval personnel, very knowledgeable in areas such as operating in the Indian Ocean," CMF spokesperson Wendy Wheatley said.

It's bigger. It's closer. Iran is richer than Pakistan. So on.

Iran has much easier access to CAR.

Your friend wants to stop Iranian oil shipments to India.

why do you doubt?

And you are wondering why Iran will also build a base in Chabahar?

Blockading ships is equivalent to going to war against the country. Are you willing to go to war with Saudi and Iran for the sake of blockading their ships?
