Pakistan must learn from LTTE’s defeat, says officer

I am also wondering, after corrupting the pashtun society with jihadism, using them like fodders and proxies, and then bombing them on signal from america, turning them into TTP and what not....why pashtuns have not awakened yet from the deep anesthesia and do some thing about military establishment who first use them in the name of national interest and then dispose of them for dollars. And then drunken bey-nimazi paleed like you day dream about nuking pashtuns.
i ignore personal attack and talk on topic :P

The sinhalese were far more united , rather aggressive ,against the tamil populace- even to the point of overlooking the gross loss of lives of innocent tamil civilians. The key point was these people were "ethnically" very different, almost to the point of being aliens.
Unfortunately, for reasons good and bad, the same is not true in case of pakistan.

well LTTE had a serious disadvantage, they didn,t had any country bordering their controlled area(which also supported them),instead they had the sea behind them and they couldn,t run away somewhere else, this played a big role in their defeat.unfortunately taliban can always go to afghanistan.

I think the problem is giving civilians rights to have weapons. Don't you think that better idea will be to ask everyone to surrender weapons or face action. That way you do not have to distinguish between good and bad people.

I disagree, they're not so much as against the PA and the gov, as much as they're frustrated by the slow process of help coming in.

It's a fallacy is assume that their frustration equals to some sort of sympathy for militants.

So what is the slow process bringing to them? ans. hate. They have already suffered a lot, from rented terrorists in their areas & now traveling with low facilities.

LTTE could be defeated because they fought like a conventional army. If Talibs fight like that, PA will make short work of them.

Also, LTTE had nowhere to run. Not the case with Talibs with that porous border.

He added: “The Sri Lankan model indicates that decisive force is the only solution. In such situations, it often becomes difficult to achieve the ideals of human rights.”
That's the problem - collateral damage that will raise the hackles of human rights organizations as a stick to beat Pakistan with, as happened with Sri Lanka.

Human rights organizations are laughing stock these days.

Look everywhere.

Sri Lankan forces fought most of their battles with the LTTE in jungles devoid of habitation.

Seeing the destruction already caused in NW, it's going to cost millions for rebuilding these townships causing a big dent in Pakistan's economy.

Like I said before, don't equate frustration with hate. They're frustrated, but they're not hateful, at least not yet.

Pakistan is already in a $100 billion+ dent, if the militants were allowed to remain, Pakistan would slowly bleed out. Better to have slight sudden increase now, so that reconstruction and investment can come in sooner, rather than bleed out in the long term.

if one takes into account the the loss these areas currently cause to Pakistani due to smuggling , tax cheating , free loading and driving away investors .. net loss will not be there after establishing law and order and rebuilding
