The AH-64 is powered by two General Electric T700 turboshaft engines with high-mounted exhausts on either side of the rotor shaft. The Apache has a four-blade main rotor and four-blade tail rotor. The crew sits in tandem, with the pilot sitting behind and above the copilot-gunner in an armored crew compartment. The crew compartment and fuel tanks are armored such that the aircraft will remain flyable even after sustaining hits from 23 mm gunfire.[11][12]
The helicopter is armed with a 30 mm M230 Chain Gun that can be slaved to the gunner's Helmet mounted display, fixed to a locked forward firing position, or controlled via the Target Acquisition and Designation System (TADS). The AH-64 carries a range of external stores on its stub-wing pylons, typically a mixture of AGM-114 Hellfire anti-tank missiles, Hydra 70 general-purpose unguided 70 mm (2.75 in) rockets, and AIM-92 Stinger air-to-air missiles for defense. In case of emergency the pylons also have mounting points for personnel transfer (mounting points are handles normally used by maintenance personnel).[13]
The AH-64 is designed to endure front-line environments and to operate during the day or night and in adverse weather using avionics and electronics, such as the Target Acquisition and Designation System, Pilot Night Vision System (TADS/PNVS), passive infrared countermeasures, Global Positioning System (GPS), and the Integrated Helmet And Display Sight System (IHADSS).
The United States will soon provide five helicopters to Pakistan to deal with insurgents effectively, Interior Minister Rhman Malik told on Wednesday. He said the helicopters will be for use by the civil law enforcement agencies working under the Interior Ministry. Senior US officials conveyed the decision to the Interior Minister, saying Washington is prepared to help Pakistan in its fight against militants. The Interior Ministry will now have 13 helicopters at its disposal. “We have had very useful meetings with senior US security officials,” Malik stated.
Don't get carried away, we wont get any Apaches what so ever, urdu newspapers are of a habbit to exaggerate things and this one is no different, the only thing that we will get will be nothing beyond cobra's for a gunship.
I think we are getting these for right now. Dude no one know we can all assume. Apache is hard to consider because you need to go through intense traning for Apache and they do not have time for train people for that. May be cobra.
But US has only Apache the most mod helo against anti-insurgency. Nothing else or install a machine gun on Bell transport helo. Which not going to work. Well in 2006 deal was almost done for six Apache, then all of sudden deal called off by US govt.
Apache AH-64 Gunships to be operated by Ministry of Interior??!!?? I seriously doubt it. These birds are not even offered to the Pakistan Army. Besides the amount of time to be spent on training of pilots, maintenance and logistics will for a new platform would simply be unrealistic for just five birds.
It will be more like the US Army Bell 412 armed with a belly Thermal Imager and side door 0.50 caliber machine guns. Similar to the ones already being operated by the Army and the Ministry of Interior/ Cabinet Division (6th Aviation Squadron)
If they offer used BELL type of helos then they might be free (But only for project).
Other Like Cobra or Apache then it will be paid. and i believe that it might be BELL .....They will never offer us APACHE. If rehman says advance helos then we can think they are offering Cobras (but Pak probabily pay for them)
