Pakistan plans to procure 30 attack helicopters and four naval ships from Turkey, Pakistani Minister for Defense Production Rana Tanveer Hussain told Anadolu Agency.

Hussain was in capital Ankara during which he met top Turkish defense officials.

In an interview with Anadolu Agency Friday, Hussain praised bilateral ties and the long history of cooperation in the defense industry sector.

He revealed that Pakistan was interested in the T-129 ATAK helicopter, developed by the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and AgustaWestland; Turkish Armed Forces began using the choppers designed for attack and reconnaissance missions in May 2014.

“It is in the pipeline…We have intention to procure this helicopter for Pakistan army.”

He added the process to procure the aircraft was “90 percent complete”, adding that proposals had been analyzed and financial aspects were being considered.

“There is another project: the MILGEM [Turkey’s national warship] naval ship. The process is completed and construction of the ship will start in near future.

“Technical and financial proposal will be going to open in Pakistan on Monday. So, this project is almost complete.”

Hussain also said four ships would be built under the project, two of them in Turkey while two more in Pakistan’s Karachi province.

About Turkey’s procurement of the single-propeller Super Mushshak trainer aircraft from Pakistan, the minister said: “Turkey is procuring 52 Super Mushshak trainer aircraft from Pakistan. This is [a] very good training aircraft for basic training of pilots.

“This aircraft is very popular in other countries of the world. Many countries [are] using this aircraft, and we are exporting.”

He said Turkey was also considering Pakistani produced JF-17 fighter aircraft.

“They are considering this aircraft, because they know in detail about this aircraft. In future, let’s hope [for the procurement].”

About Pakistan’s fight against terrorism, he said Pakistan is at the frontline of the fight against “this menace”.

“Our armed forces have two operations. We have started [anti-terror] Zar-e-Azb operation three years back. Now, we started another operation Radd-ul-Fasaad,” the minister said.

Pakistan's anti-terror fight

The Zar-e-Azb operation was launched on June 15, 2014, in North Waziristan along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border as a renewed effort against militancy in the wake of an airport attack in Karachi, which killed 28 people and wounded 18 others.

The operation was followed by Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad which began in February 2017, following a resurgence in terrorist incidents.

“I want to tell you that before our government, almost 1,500 [terror] incidents took place during one year. But now, it has almost come [down] to 30-40 annually…”

Hussain also added Pakistan remains proud of its performance in the fight against terrorism.

“In this location, if [there is] any other country, I think they couldn’t do what Pakistan have done in this menace.”

About the impact of presence of Daesh and Taliban in Afghanistan, the minister said when Afghanistan pushes against these armed groups, “they come to Pakistan. And then, we face this problem [terrorism].”

Hussain added Pakistan wants Afghanistan to be a peaceful country.

@Bilal Khan (Quwa) @cabatli_53 @Gryphon so the Ship deal is done and construction starts in near future ..

.
or, we could do what India does and design a warship heavily based on stuff that already exists and implement foreign subsystems in it.

. . .
Construction will start only when the final signatures are concluded.

I recall the ill-fated Type 214 deal when officials were saying something similar: 90% or 95% complete. I hope nothing similar happens this time.

@cabatli_53 brother said, that its I-Class Frigate ( 3000 Ton ) which is be negotiated .. the German U-Boats was a mistake to begin with, Germans are not easy to get any weapons from , they even refused selling it to KSA .. i think turkey wont be doing that, and most likely the Financial issues which are been sorted out .

Turkey's linkage in the JF-17 looks very interesting. It would make a perfect second line fighter and the twin seater could be used a LIFT platform. The F-5 derived trainers of the Turkish Air Force are getting old so I am betting something will happen on this front.

Great news... both countries must work together in order to survive in challenging times.
JF-17 blk. 3 is as good as F-16 blk.52 and in integrated battle zone as effective as F-16.
It's low service rate make it more available and its not bugged.

This forum is full of overenthusiastic kids who believe everything thrown their way.

The saddest part about the Type 214 was that the German govt even cleared export credit for the deal. In addition, TKMS was hoping to expand the program to include the Type 210mod and MEKO (I heard both from someone who met TKMS people at IDEAS 2006).

And you remember what else was "90%" complete once upon a time? M2K-5 in the 1990s. Defence deals with Pakistan are like medieval era births, the closer you get, the higher the chance of infant fatality.

Nothing was more painful than the Type 214 deal falling through. With the Mirages, it was some 400 million USD PAF couldn't manage.

i thought the t214 deal died because of refusal to integrate slcm's ?
the mk2's would have been perfect and a carry on for the rose program

As @Gryphon stated, it was the PPP/Zardari gov't signing onto the IMF austerity package that killed the deal. I don't think the SLCM issue was a concern to the PN with the Type 214. In reality, the Type 214 would have been a superb attack asset to deter enemy naval activity along the SLOC - the DM2A4 and Harpoon integration was sufficient. The strategic question could have been managed in another way.
