Is that a good thing that we do not care or is it that we do not know how to respond to this "perception" and have decided to play petulant? - I think it's the latter, we are still connected to the world, though barely and it's important what we think of each other.

Why are Iran and Pakistan viewed as negatively as they are? Are they viewed negatively for the same reasons?

I don't know whether it is a good thing or not that we as a nation have come to ignore international opinions. I think it is probably because we are too caught up in the miseries of our everyday lives to really care about such relatively frivolous matters when more basic problems are so large.
