Pakistan army personnel were present there in Afghanistan and fought alongside Afghan fighters. I personally know a former SSG officer who was stationed there. The Soviets withdrew not because they were decimated, it was because the cost of waging the war and a high number of casualties were just to much. They had to withdraw, it just wasn't in their interests to stay any longer. Pakistan's role , just like the role of Americans was to increase the cost for Soviets.
However now, the world is different it is heading towards multi polarity, Russian interests are being aligned with those of Pakistan, infact there are talks of Russian troops might be deployed at the Afghan-Tajik border. Afghan regime is asking for weapons from Russia. US knows if it withdraws , it will leave behind a vacuum which might be filled by Russia. Some analysts say that is one of the reasons of extending their stay in Afghanistan.

This post is less a revision of history, more a reminder that look what you did to Russia back then.
Russia and Pakistan will get closer with time. Contribution in CPEC can overcome all damages occurred to Russia when It was Soviet Union (with dead man returning back as exception).........

When Germany and England do any agreement then no one remind them about two World wars they fought against each other..... time change, so are policies and so are friends and foes (with few exceptions of course)

There is no point of dwelling what happened in the past. Past stays in the past. Quite frankly, USSR was the instigator starting with 1971 in aid with India. Pakistan just repaid the favor in aid with Afghanistan against USSR.

Now that is in the past which should stay there.

Thank to China, Russia now realizes the important of regional player, Pakistan, and maintaining friendly political relationship with Pakistan can go a long way, better than their with India now. Irony how the time changes.

Till a few months ago every time a Pakistani member felt like it, he reminded everyone that they had destroyed the soviets in Afghanistan , now a days they conveniently forget it . After all su 35 may be coming

Pakistan had a big role in the break up of ussr besides all of gcc, egypt and israel.
Many consider it pakistan's finest hour.

In reality, the whole project was a CIA production directed by zbignew bresinski, Secretary defense, aka, war criminal. Pakistan was a pawn. May be Russia understands this.

Russia-Pak cooperation is the need of the hour and thats why pakistan has approached belarus which is a window into russia.

I think Pakistan is directly in contact with Russia and MI-35 deal is one proof for it. Russians know better than Pakistan about importance of Russia-Pak relations and they would like to expedite the matters but we have bureaucratic sluggishness and uncle sam and its stooges do not want to loose control of Pakistan.

I agree. We should never have aligned with the US. Most Pakistanis now realize what a folly it was to interfere in Afghanistan when it was none of our business. Russia is a much more reliable ally than US. India has been its ally and has Russia ever demanded anything from the Indians almost at the point of a sword?

Even the americans will not demand anything at the point of a sword from us. Because we are not in the business of selling our land, air space, sovereignty, airfields, ports, non state actors and even endangered birds to reapectable countries.

You cant be on sale and expect to be treated like a lady, because you are not one.
