Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Saturday said Pakistan and Iraq should fully exploit tremendous potential for promoting bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
Talking to the Speaker of Iraqi Assembly‚ Osama Abdul Aziz Al-Nujaifi in Islamabad‚ he said a stable and united Iraq is in the interest of the region as well as international peace and security.
The Iraqi Speaker hoped that parliamentary relations between the two countries would further strengthen.
Welcoming the visiting Speaker, the Prime Minister said that his visit would provide a new impetus to the parliamentary relations between the two countries.
“Parliaments of both the countries can play an important role in addressing the problems confronted by their people. A stable and united Iraq is in the interest of Iraqi people, the region and international peace and security”, added the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan and Iraq enjoy traditional and friendly relations and Pakistan welcomes the lifting of sanctions from Iraq by the United Nations Security Council which would lead Iraq to development and progress.
Expressing his best wishes for the peace, prosperity and stability of the people of Iraq, the Premier said the tremendous potential for trade and commerce between the two countries need to be fully exploited for gaining mutual benefits.
Osama Abdul Aziz Al-Nujaifi thanked the Prime Minister for the warm hospitality extended to him and expressed the hope that parliamentary relations between the two countries would be strengthened.
