An airline pilot is due in court tomorrow after being arrested on suspicion of being drunk in charge of a plane. The captain of the Pakistan International Airlines flight, which was due to fly from Leeds Bradford Airport to Islamabad on Wednesday night, will appear before Leeds magistrates tomorrow morning.

The 54-year-old pilot, from Pakistan, was arrested just after 10pm yesterday, apparently while making pre-flight checks in the cockpit of the Airbus 310 aircraft.

All 180 passengers on board at the time had to be taken off the plane and put up overnight in a hotel.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: 'At about 10pm last night police were called to Leeds Bradford International Airport where they arrested an airline pilot on suspicion of carrying out an activity ancillary to an aviation function while impaired by drink.

'The 54-year-old man, from Pakistan, is currently in custody.' Irfan Faiz, 54, from Pakistan, will appear before magistrates in Leeds tomorrow charged with carrying out an activity ancillary to an aviation function while impaired by drink.

Apparently is the son of retired Army General Faiz Ali Chisti.

A PIA official said that Captain Irfan Faiz, who is the son of General Faiz Ali Chisti, was stopped by security officials at the airport during routine screening. “He appeared drowsy and was stopped on suspicion. Then they checked his alcohol level, which came out to be high.”

God knows how many times he had drunk before stepping inside the cockpit. This basically sums up the whole PIA scenario. Corruption, theft, murderers, killers are basically running this institution while leeching blood out of poor people.

Another proud moment presented by PIA.

Fire each and everyone and start doing rehires after strict evaluation.

All hostess over 130 pounds should be replaced. Its time we replace the aunties.

Wish it was that easy. Actually, you cannot fire them. You can only do a golden handshake in which you pay each and every employee a hefty amount before he voluntarily leaves the job. Zardari hired thousands of new people in PIA and this is why we are having so much problems.

Pakistan pilot admits being drunk after UK plane arrest

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) pilot pleaded guilty on Friday to being drunk just before he was due to fly to Pakistan, court officials and media said.

Irfan Faiz, 54, was more than four times the legal alcohol limit when he was arrested in the cockpit of a plane at Leeds Bradford airport in northern England, according to media reports of a court hearing.

An official at Leeds Magistrates Court confirmed to AFP that Faiz, a Pakistani national, had pleaded guilty at the hearing and his case was referred to a higher court for sentencing on October 18.

He was arrested shortly after 10:00 pm (2100 GMT) on Wednesday and charged with "carrying out an activity ancillary to an aviation function while impaired by drink", police said.

The court heard that Faiz had been unsteady on his feet before the flight and also smelled of alcohol, according to the BBC and local newspaper the Yorkshire Post.

A spokesman for PIA, Pakistan's national carrier, had told AFP on Thursday that if convicted, Faiz would be sacked.

So basically, UK police waited until the drunk pilot boarded the plane!

Never heard of pilots being alcohol tested, after getting boarded.

I think he was tested when
1) the lady complained about the strong smell before he boarded the plane.
2) the guy complained on the other side of the radio when he noticed the pilot in the cockpit seems little out of place because he was unable to reply to his calls properly

Its just such a shame man. Why can't we just privatize this damn company, it will still remain a pakistani airline, it will still hire pakistanis, it will still pay taxes to pakistani government, it will still serve the people of pakistan.
