Pakistan increases military posts along Afghan border

Pakistan has increased the number of military posts along the Afghan border in Balochistan to keep a check over the Taliban’s cross-border movement in the wake of ongoing Operation Mushtarak, a private TV news channel reported on Saturday.

Quoting top military sources, the channel reported that at least 26 new military posts had been set-up by the security forces, which had brought the total number of military posts to 286. The channel also reported that the Pakistani government would handover the apprehended Taliban to the NATO forces, if they cross over into Pakistan from Afghanistan’s Helmand province.

Both Pakistan and the US forces have also arrived on an understanding regarding the timely sharing of intelligence information. During his meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Commander General McCrystal assured that the US and the NATO forces would extend maximum intelligence cooperation to the Pakistani forces about the Taliban’s movement across the border.

Last year, the US-led NATO forces had vacated more than half a dozen key security checkposts on the Afghan side of the Pak-Afghan border just ahead of the major Pakistan Army ground offensive Operaiton Rah-e-Nijaat against the Taliban in the volatile tribal area of South Waziristan.
