Business Recorder LogoBalochistan government is planning to purchase 1000 megawatt electricity from Iran to overcome the power shortage in Balochistan besides ensuring uninterrupted power supply to tube-wells in agriculture sector of the province.

Balochistan Planning and Development department sources told APP here on Tuesday that work on solar energy project is also in progress which on completion would generate additional power for the province.

"Gwadar deep water port is also being made operational besides organising the mines and mineral sector of the province on modern lines," they added. Referring to irrigation sector schemes, the sources said work on Kachi canal, small and medium dams projects is also in progress which on completion would bring over one million acres of barren land under cultivation across the province.

yeah just get electricity from Iran for Balochistan. It sounds feasible project this way. Bringing it down to Sindh or Punjab was not right if Balochistan was energy-hungry itself

This is a good move ! Preferential treatment to Balochistan right now when there are some disgruntled people in the Province may go a long way towards showing to the common Baloch that we're really willing to change and that we're sorry for the years of neglect...!

It would be more useful if Pakistan built power structures (hydro, thermal) inside Pakistan. It would be cheaper in the long run and be less prone to security threats, changes in the international situation visavis Iran etc.

200% Agreed with the part that Pakistan should produce/generate/manufacture it's needs itself. After 7 decades also Pakistan importing & importing & importing.

It would be for sure but our politicians have neglected this for decades and continue to play games other then making announcements nothing happens after at least help the province and its people plus united states and Canada and Most European countries have powers system joined they buy and sell power from each other.

The point is : You try to fill up the deficit in the now and plan for the future by investing in local production at a later date to ease the dependence.

Corrupt politicians of Pakistan don't know that they can have more kick backs by self reliance project rather than importing. They are satisfied with millions when they can get billions.

Look at our politicians, they earn more in corruption than Pakistani counterparts.

Not only from import but also by domestic project. CWG, Fodder Scam, etc....

Even in corruption long sighted-ness is needed.

anything to expect balochistan govt to do is useless, the news is coming before the elections so you can understand the motive behind this
