That depends on whether the fence will be effective or not, which is the question I was raising. Will it help stop the migration of terrorists and militants to and fro? Will it help eradicate taliban and similar groups? Then I am all for it. Will it simply be a colossal waste of money, and even after the fence is built, will they continue to find safe haven on each side of the border? Then I am against it. I'm sure you will agree.
I agree, but in South Asia anything is possible. They will cut and sell it, extra money for terrorists.
Mining border is against geneva convention.Great. Now mine it too.

The border of Afghanistan with balochistan has no presence of TTP, the length of FATA border with Afghanistan is only 373 miles. Add to it small border of dir(kpk) with afghanistan. In this range, attacks and infilteration of militants occur from afghanistan. Fencing and monitoring 373 miles is affordable. So if Pakistan decides to fence the 2640 km long Pak-Afghan border & lets say it'll cost us $100,000 a km, that'll work out to a little under $300 million - Spread over 3 years thats....peanuts !
Disagree. the LOC fencing is quite small in comparison to what is being proposed along the Durand line. Simply put, Pakistan doesn't have the means to patrol the entire border effectively, and they hope the barbed wire will help in that regard, but as we've seen with other examples (including the LOC) the wires can easily be cut apart and space can be made for people to come and go as they please.Actually the comparison should be within the region.
LOC fencing is working just A-OK.
And so will the fence on Pakistan- Afghanistan border.
Original durand line? Where is the source of your claim and map?Problem is not only the fence but the original durrandline in red.Pakistan has already extracted upto the original line in kunar. On ocassion Pakistan has built checkpost in Afghanistan territory to expand the the boundry and has been successful in region's around bajaur and the rest of FATA.This is the reason the Fencing around FATA has begun.
Red is Original durrandline
While if current Pak-Afghan border
Post reported for racist stereotyping and mockingPakistan should hire Afghan and Pakhtuns to build this wall, they will have something to do other than naswar.

A nomad community called kochi migrate between Central afghanistan and Punjab on seasonal basis. They have NICs of both Afghanistan and pakistan. There is no shortage of mountains along the LOC either, is there? But terrorists have snuck in through mountains, and they will do it in Af-Pak as well. Heck, there are videos on youtube of Afghan talibs making their way through rocky mountains into Pakistan. (I won't post them here, because they come from jihadi propoganda sources.)
Fencing is a one time cost, but manning and monitoring it is a recurring expense. But anyway, if the alternative is continous war, then it's a smaller expense. I'm just not sure if it is that easy to insulate Pak and Afgh from each other, like India and Pak. One of the reasons is that the people living near the common borders have a lot of cultural affinity to each other, and think in terms of tribal or ethnic loyalties, rather than nationality. Can an electric fence put an end to the two way migration once and for all? In our case, it was a matter of keeping Pakistani jihadists and infiltrators out, not entire populations always migrating to and fro.

According to my knowledge, only border of mohmand agency was kept undefined by british, on request of amir abdul rehman, who first protested against division of mohmand tribe (which had links with royal family). Due to this, mohmand agency border has always been always site of friction and clashes, the latest being the border gate incident in 2013.

That's already obsolete doctrine. as we have raised our armed forces to 1:2 parity with india unlike 1:4 in past so india cannot carry a conventional infantry and armoured invasion in case of any war (that is most unlikely).bye bye strategic depth

India have edge in airforce still I don't believe there will be any war between india and Pak Unless India force Pakistan to Retaliate by sropping its waters from kashmir to dangerous low level
