Let's look at Gwadar and CPEC from a different angle.
Would Pakistan have been able to invest 60Billion in to Gwadar and Cpec?
Did we have the manpower and technology to build the infrastructure?
Would the world be trading with us through Gwadar?
Would we be able to import billions and export billions?
Would any other country invest 60+ Billion in to our nation?
The answer is a big NO? Even If it was the year 2050, we still would have been in the same position.
Lucky for us we have a emerging super power nation right next to us and they need Gwadar and Cpec to save trillions over the 21st century. We let them invest in our nation, build roads, hospitals, cities.
Now it is up to our rulers, be it military or civilian to get the best deal out from this for our nation. Obviously China will think about themselves and think about profit, otherwise why would they invest in us, the question is are our rulers thinking about our benefit? Or are they only filling in their own pockets through kickbacks?
Our rulers should have started companies and got the investment from our overseas Pakistanis and Pakistani businessmen. We then should have Invested 1Billion every year from our budget in to cpec. If China invested 60Billion then we should have invested minimum 20Billion. This way alot of hotels, companies in Cpec and gwadar would have been Pakistani and our people would have benefited. We should have also requested China to train our work force. Out of 100, atleast 25 should have been Pakistani people. We should have helped our private businessmen and people to invest invest in hotels, businesses in Cpec.
Instead we have China making our airports, hotels, roads, hospital. We are even thinking of handing our steel mill to China. A nation that cannot run its airline and steel industry is complaining about giving China tax relief on Gwadar and Cpec, even after 60Billion is invested. China will make 1 trillion profit on 60Billion investment and why should they not? Its their right.
