Pakistan fruit and veg exports increase

Fruit and vegetables exports from the country during the first three quarters of the current financial year registered an increase of 15.73% and 75.02% respectively as compared to the same period last financial year.

From July-March 2012-13, fruit exports were calculated at 591,775 metric tons against 621,694 metric tons in the corresponding period of last year, stated the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

During the period under review, the country earned $319.61 million by exporting fruits of different kinds, as opposed to $300.18 million over the comparable period. Meanwhile, vegetable exports were calculated at 463,208 metric tons worth $171.21 million compared with 327,673 metric tons worth $106.38 million.

However, the exports of leguminous vegetables or pulses decreased 44.74% during the period under review.
