Pakistan Federal Budget FY 2020-21: Analysis and Discussion Thread

I guess Lifafas are happy so it must not be too bad.
Ummm FDI increased by 125% in first 10 months of current fiscal year. I haven't seen numbers for May and June. Even if overall increase goes from 125 to 80% it is still quite an improvement so idk how this Mubashir guy is saying 25% next year would be difficult when we managed 80-125% this year. Everyone will be an international economics expert today.

Same with the health budget.... Cumulatively it is quite sizeable but again I have serious doubts on how far each ruppee is going in the actual health services specially if you look at the condition of hospitals in interior Sindh Baluchistan, South Punjab and parts of KPK. Lots of leakages in our system.
Here in Norway, education and health services are provided by city councils. Provincial and Central govts have no say in this matter.

Here is some insight by an economic expert:

How Pakistan are going to finance 1406 Billion Rupees of Defence budget?

What about the rest 220 million Pakistanis are going to do.

According to budget documents volume of federal budget has been kept at Rs. 7600 billion. According to the details Rs 3235 billion will be spent on interest and repayment of loans

Such a tragedy that nearly half our budget goes on loan repayments. Imagine the potential if we could even half that.

Someone should ask Khwaja Asif why under the last two years of his governments watch did the ballooning of twin deficits begin? And why the unsustainable policy of overvalued PKR and use of reserves to loosely peg was employed.

The current government isn’t great, but it’s doing about as much as they or PPP would have done under the circumstances. And certainly they are not to blame for the current financial crisis. The real test for PTI is which state they leave the economy in (not counting bad luck), whereas the previous government left a mess that needed to be cleared up.

They are going to riot, curse the remaining years of this govt.

It's not tragedy but planned outcome of choosing democracy vs military rule.

PTI will stabilize the economy by 2023, twin deficits are already brought under control. And then people will bring back PPP+PMLN to power to repeat the economic destruction that happened between 2008 and 2018.

Will reduce inshallah, but to really break the cycle we have to bring balance to the economy. Do everything we can to create industry and a viable export sector. Until then every government will be caught between trying to prevent one of the two; a)Awaam from suffering poverty and unemployment, b) Unsustainable economic policies that result in financial crises. Until then we will not be able to grow fast enough, and attempts to put growth into the economy in short term will end in crises. With viable exports and industry, we can comfortably grow at 6% and not need IMF bailouts like we do now.

Increase of 11.85% proposed in #Defence Budget of Pakistan. Increase of 1.3% in #Health Budget is also proposed. 220 million Pakistanis vs 8 lakh Pakistan Army. Something really wrong here. :undecided::confused:

Two different things. Primary deficit is very important.
Due to current coronavirus chaos, all economies are going in primary deficits and have negative Real GDP Growth. Why would Pakistan be an exception?

Sir while increase in defense budget is worrying but this health budget is just for federal government. Each of the provinces set their own health and education budgets

Yes this corona did mess it up for the last year. We were at surplus of 0.7% before it came. I hope just like last year we are able to go back to surplus. Remember the budget planned for primary deficit negative 0.6% for FY2019 but we over achieved a surplus.
