What's new

Pakistan experiences lowest HDI growth in the region

Do I need to be a future teller to know the fate of Pakistan... isn't it obvious....
and regarding not lasting long...... India is a 5000 yrs old country....and look at Pakistan..... merely 67 yrs old and look at your state of pathetic affairs...... again going for a military rule.... :D:D:p:p

I don't need a fortune teller to know the fate of your account, just like the 15 others you had. :p:
Now shoo! Run back to your little hole! No one is falling for your bait!

Most posters here are misinformed or just merely misread the point,, What the article suggests is SL even through 30 years of debilitating terrorist conflict managed to provide a relative decent life to it's citizens

And for Pakistani authorities not to make civil conflict an excuse

The high HDI value SL has is not a flash in the plan.. It's an achievement of over 60 years of social programmes.. Post Independent Ceylon was a leading Asian nation in living standards and economy.. Just refer to past data.. It's not as if the country suddenly leapt in to high HDI after the conflict just 5 years ago.. SL is only of very few developing countries in the world that has total universal health care and education including tertiary education University level

Sure it being a small country and a relative small population have pro's but you have to get the ball rolling to get results and they started it more than half a century ago to gain the results

I believe that Mr. sharif has the vision to improve Pakistan on multiple front. However it is sad that this fellow is not allowed to rule his country in peaceful manner inspite of getting Majority.

HDI doesn't only mean poverty as in case of pakistan other factors are involved dragging Pakistan into the list of low HDI countries.

anyway this or next year we will once again become part of medium HDI countries list
HDI in complete gives the account of sanitation, healthcare, education and other government facilities. So how do you expect to change the HDI rank of a country in just an year. It takes around 5-7 years with real hard work to accomplish this. This HDI ranks only tells that Pakistan lags behind in almost all the criteria required.

Look beneath the index and see reality.

The reality is that Pakistani children outperform Indian children on both math and reading.

While 72% of Pakistan's 8th graders can do simple division, the comparable figure for Indian 8th graders is just 57%. Among 5th graders, 63% of Pakistanis and 73% of Indians CAN NOT divide a 3 digit number by a single digit number, according to the World Bank report titled "Student Learning in South Asia: Challenges, Opportunities, and Policy Priorities". The performance edge of Pakistani kids over their Indian counterparts is particularly noticeable in rural areas. The report also shows that Pakistani children do better than Indian children in reading ability.

As a percentage of the total underage population, how many in Pakistan are able to divide etc? Considering that a miniscule fraction of Pakistani children actually go to school to begin with.

It doesn't. It assigns equal weights to all its components.

If it assigned higher weights to hygiene, health and poverty, Pakistan would be ahead of India.

Indians are already ahead of Pak in every stream and field except doing bakwaas. There should be no prob. for you to except that in any accounts, Pak is poorer than India. Except you take your millionares and our BPL people into account.

India is home to the world's largest population of poor, hungry and illiterates, according to "bakwaas" from multiple international agencies.

There's something called overpopulation. The no. of wealthy Indians is way more the total population of Pak.
