They tried registering "Basmati" under their exclusive IP rights. Which meant Pakistani rice exporters couldn't use the word Basmati if they would have won this. But glad our sleepy head government woke up from hibernation and contested/contesting that claim and also registered all other products for GI.

Bhai ghanta samaj nai aarha kuch bhi. I've heard that basmati rice were first grown in Pak but were smuggled into india is that true? Also the case between both is in court right now?

Actually, Basmati is grown both in India and Pakistan. So they can't simply claim it as exclusively their own. That would hurt the exports of Pakistanis which may cost us $Billions. Yes, right now the case is going on regarding the Basmati.
