Pakistan Economy in Free Fall Under Nawaz Sharif

Is not PMN-L a business friendly party? NS thinks big and he will make long term investment.

Business friendly? He is a 'trickle-down' economics champion...or as we call it, Bushonomics. It failed in U.S...just imagine what it will do it Pakistan.

Only few businessmen and feudals are booming, while common man is dieing--literally.

Reagan and not Bush introduced the idea.

He reduced tarrifs and taxes and USA saw a huge boom compared to Carter years.

Reagans detractors however were not happy, so they coined the term "trickle down" and "Reaganonomics". to mock his policies.

Oh and Clinton a democrat continued Reagan's policies and USA had a bull run during his tenure too.

@AUz Reaganomics, not Bushonomics. Fauj is right. But by the end of Reagan years, USA had an economic crisis at hand precipitated by proliferation of 'Junk Bonds' and risky investments by Savings & Loan institutions. That is the down side of every 'easy money' expansionary policy.

Reagan is considered a good / successful president and yet his policies directly contributed to Democrat win with Clinton in presidency, similarly NS would be remembered for turning around the economy (he does not need to do much). But you can bet that the pendulum will swing the other way too when people see concentration of wealth, lopsided development, dirty politics, and tolerance of corruption in PML-N ranks.

Right now MNS is the right person in the right place. We would need to get rid of him in the next elections, provided PPP is not in a position to make a bid for power. PTI needs to show good result in local and provincial governance. By 2018 many like me will vote for PTI if they see that it has done well enough in difficult circumstances. We should see good and active legislation and better governance from PTI. Street politics up to a level which does not hurt economy (protests and agitation) for transparent and trustworthy election process is also needed to keep pressure on Federal government.

If I compare Gen. Musharraf, Gadari & patwaris rule, Gen. Musharraf's rule was the best & Pakistan’s Economy progressed at a rapid pace.

Among Generals, Ayub did the best. The rest is just dikhawa aka show-shawlizm aka socialism.

Mush had a chance for 10 forking years. But he didn't have political support to launch a comprehensive reform plan for industrial and agri development.

His government continued to work on ad-hoc basis.

Among politicians, Nawaz's first round was 110% development oriented. But the development was so mind boggling for the rest of the Pakistan that we got our heads spinning, and thus kicked him out only after a short stint.

ZA Bhattoo takes the cake as dark lord and a true feudal. He brought Islamo-fascism aka Islamo socialims of nth degree by looting and theft of the private banks and industry.

BB Gadhari and the rest of politicians have been either too tiny, too ethnic, and too dumb to come up with original ideas.

Imran Khan Taliban Khan has great potential. His downside or his issue is being a typical village idiot who always realizes AFTERWORDS that the tree branch he was cutting was in fact the same on which he was sitting. He falls and learns, he falls and learns, he falls and learns. and the story goes on and on literally speaking.

So Mr.

Please try to compare generals to generals and politicians to politicians. Because it is illogical to start comparing apples to oranges.

Thank you Mr. Bamu.

Just some minor additions and updates.

S&L was an issue but nowhere comparable to the crash of banks like few years ago or the one in 30s.

Reagan's party survived that and Bush senior was elected (thus your statement that Reagan's policies lead directly to Clinton is incorrect).

Bush senior lost his charm when he did the "read my lips" and "no taxes" trick. Republicans ditched him and Clinton was elected.

However Clinton continued Reaganomics.

In some form those policies continue till today with second term Prez Obama.

Don't mean to start a flame war with you, just putting the facts straight.

Comparing NS with Reagan is a bit far fetched. NS infact is more comparable to gulf sheiks, and distantly related to Singapore's Lee, and S, Korea's 2nd prez Yun Bo-seon (served: 1960–1962), or the 3rd prez Park Chung-hee (served: 1963–1979) or perhaps India's Vajpai.

However Pakistani nation is too lazy @rsed, and too violent to support NS the way Singaprean, or Koreans, or gulfians or Indians supported their leaders as listed above.

So sadly speaking, our march towards self destruction will continue albeit slowly during NS period.

There are always people like you walking around. If you MR. want to talk about the past & go all the way back then I say there is no leader like Mohammed Ali Jinnah & what he wanted to do for Pakistan no politician & General can do it today.

Gen. Ayubs time was good but that was a different time & threats were not too many unlike today. So MR. in recent times Gen. Musharraf's rule was the best as compared to Gadari & patwari.

In the whole world people rise up and help their country, In Pakistan everyone thinks Pakistan is their baap ke jagir and lutto jitna loot saktey ho, I am talking about everyone not just politicians. Yet they complain and list all the governments that has done mismanagement, can someone name one govt that has not done the mismanagement in last 30 years. Lets just take a moment and think how many time you have ripped off your country last years, once you come to the conclusion that you were the most honest person in Pakistan then start pointing your fingers on others but till then, lutto is ko jitna loot saktey ho

MAJ never had enough time to rule to show the economic improvement in Pakistan.

However what I have read about his economic approach, he was more of a fabian society kind of guy.

So my guess is that we would not have seen a major economic miracle under his rule.

Again this is guess work based on his declared views, as we do not have an actual example.

No Pakistani should doubt our heroes but unfortunatly this has become a common practice, as it has become a easy way to gain popularity in the eyes of enemy of Pakistan.

You read or heard something else, I heard & read something else, if our Jinnah was alive for few more years than Pakistan would had been a very different country.

What the fork is this "doubting" business. Analyzing economic policy of Jinnah doesn't mean any disrespect. Or you being from subcontinent must treat your heros as pagan idols (nauzbillah. )

List here the economic policy you think was documented or implemented by Jinnah.

Why just send out fire crackers?

I mentioned Jinnah's economic leanings towards fabian society.

Now show me what is the base of your views?

Thank you.

Ah, another Mush supporter. Will these people ever learn?

Rapid pace my foot. Look at the energy starved country I live in today. What did the idiot general do? He did NOTHING, because he understood nothing. Pakistan had been seeing signs of energy deficiency from 2004 onwards. What did the thick-skulled general do apart from only completing Ghazi Barotha. Name one serious low cost energy project that was launched by him. One. Only one?

The thing with Musharraf is that he was ruling during a world economic boom

As a result Pakistan benfited from the world economic situation, but in reality he did very little none of our major problems like power situation were resolved.

If during his rule he had implemented plans to start power production whilst the economy was doing better we would be in a better position now and able to take advantage, but instead we now have to put the basics in place so the Pakistan in 2020 can take advantage all these are lost years

Zardari was even worse he did nothing at all

Doesn't really matter who the leaders is, if Pakistan can't curb or stop extremist violent and stabilize the country, there will be no economic progress. FDI is the key to development and no right thinking person would invest in an unstable country borderline of being a fail state status. One must confront ones problem to progress.
well if u stop invading our neibours then we dont have to deal with 8 million afghan immigrants and dont have to bare the fall out of ur wars

When was the US of A responsible for the shia sunni blood letting in Pakistan. You should stop licking the Saudi behind and start beheading any imam who speak of extremism between shia and sunni. Pakistan should do what the Chinese do to control extremist, have an under cover agent in mosques if they observe an imam spouting hatred between shia and sunni just make the imam disappear and the new imam that replace him will understand what is and what isn't acceptable. This is the only way Pakistan will be able to get pass the mid evil hatred, and sheer stupidity of ancient belief that should be left in the past.

You can blame the US all you want at the end of the day you have to live in Pakistan we don't , so as the saying go suck to be you.
