By APP Published: November 15, 2012
ISLAMABAD: It is little secret that Pakistan has had immense trouble with Afghans crossing over illegally from Afghanistan, with the Durand line not being recognised as a proper border by locals, and a route abused rampantly by terrorists.
Law enforcement agencies though managed to apprehend and deport 19,881 Afghans over the past five years.
Pakistan has handed over 21,407 foreign national prisoners arrested under under the Foreigners Act 1946 to India, Afghanistan and Iran during the last five years.
The break-up shows that Punjab handed over a total of 414 prisoners to these countries including 54 to India, 357 to Afghanistan and three prisoners to Iran.
Meanwhile, Sindh deported 2120 foreign nationals including 1369 to India, 723 to Afghanistan and 28 prisoners to Iran.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) handed over 8,550 such prisoners to Afghanistan. No prisoner was handed over by the provincial authorities to Iran or India during last five years.
