ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI: Further needling India on the Kashmir issue, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday declared slain Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani a "martyr" and said July 19 will be observed as a "black day" to express solidarity with people of Kashmir.

Addressing a special cabinet meeting in Lahore to discuss the situation in Kashmir,Sharif termed the "movement of Kashmiris as a movement of freedom".

"Pakistan would continue to extend moral, political and diplomatic support for Kashmiris in their just struggle for right to self-determination," the Prime Minister said.

"The Prime Minister termed Burhan Wani as martyr of independence movement," Radio Pakistan reported.

He said, the "Indian brutalities will give impetus to the freedom struggle and Kashmiri people will get their right to self-determination for which the whole Pakistani nation is standing behind them."

The Prime Minister directed all the relevant departments to highlight the Kashmir issue at international fora.

Pakistan fanning discontent in Kashmir: India

India on Thursday said Pakistan is not only pushing in terrorists but also fanning discontent within the Kashmir valley by providing support to terrorist outfits.

Asserting that Wani issue was internal to India, external affairs ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said Pakistan has no locus standi in the matter and asked it to refrain from interfering in it.

Asked if there was a shift in Pakistan strategy vis-a-vis Kashmir where one sees increase in number of 'home-grown militants', he said, "It is part of the continued strategy of Pakistan of not only infiltrating terrorists from across the border but also fanning discontent within the valley by providing various support to terrorist outfits."

Terming Pakistan's continued effort to internationalise the Kashmir issue as "a self-serving exercise towards narrow political end", Swarup said the world has a clear view about which country in the region covets the territory of others, uses terrorism as state policy, provides sanctuary to UN-designated terrorists and terror groups and violates human rights.

"Terrorism is terrorism and no amount of justification on part of Pakistan is going to change that," he said.

LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday chaired a cabinet meeting at Governor House in which top government officials condemned the labelling of slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani as a terrorist by the Indian government.

Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo told Dawn that cabinet members agreed all Pakistani embassies worldwide as well as the Foreign Office should register a protest against Indian atrocities in India-held Kashmir by submitting resolutions to the United Nations.

Members of the cabinet also decided to call a joint session of parliament to discuss the Kashmir issue, but a date for the session was not agreed upon, Bizenjo said.

The government also announced that Pakistan would observe a black day over violence in Kashmir on July 19.

Wani, the Hizbul Mujahideen chief of operations, was killed in fighting last Friday after Indian troops, acting on a tip, cordoned a forested village in the southern Kashmir's Kokernag area. Two other members of Wani's group were also killed in the gun battle.

Wani's killing drew tens of thousands to rise up and renew demands for freedom from Indian rule. Massive protests took place despite imposition of an indefinite curfew in most parts of IHK.

The death toll from clashes between Indian troops and protesters in the region rose to 34 as Indian forces used live ammunition, pellet guns and tear gas for crowd control.

Paramilitary troops and police in riot gear patrolled villages and towns in the region. Most shops were shuttered, businesses were closed and cellphone services were suspended.

Pakistan on Sunday condemned what it termed the 'extra-judicial' killing of Wani, Hizbul Mujahideen's chief of operations, by Indian government forces. Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Vikas Swarup asked Pakistan to refrain from issuing statements on the Kashmir unrest, terming it an interference in India's internal affairs.

In his early 20s, Wani was born in the southern town of Tral and was a teenager in 2010 when his older brother was beaten by troops on patrol near their home.

Shortly after, he joined Hizbul Mujahideen and eventually became the iconic face of Kashmir's militancy.

The son of a school headmaster, he regularly posted video messages online dressed in military fatigues and invited young men to join the movement against Indian rule."

For all I care, they can give him their highest military/civilian medal. And why should we care whether this will help Pakistan or not. They have already damaged their reputation. Even Afghanistan, a fellow Muslim country, is accusing them of sponsoring terrorism. I will happy if Pakistan doesn't send terrorist from across the border into India.

Nothing will change on the Ground

If Pakistan can change the LOC by even One Inch ; India will accept defeat

Pakistani law of holes : " when you are in a hole, keep digging ".

With so many terrorist attacks happening in the world, they first support a member of terrorist organisation and then honour the same terrorist as a martyr. Good going.

Its hardly a wonder that their largest aid giver speaks about them as below. Just listen to the 1 hour video. US does not talk about even Iran and North Korea like this.

Pakistan is trying to use his death to internationalize Kashmir issue, but it has fallen on deaf years. No one cares about a dead militant from a designated terrorist organization.

It is not internationalize Kashmir, but saving Nawaz Shariff. Panama gate has become an albatross around Nawaz's neck. He knows that raising Kashmir, will make people of Pakistanis divert their attention. Now I am sure Nawaz Shariff is safe for next two years until next elections. Apart from that, I don't think, Pakistan has the credibility to internationalize Kashmir.
