ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and China have decided to strengthen cooperation in oil and gas and power sectors under the Long-Term Plan of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects.

Under the plan, both countries will also focus on promoting the construction of major projects of thermal power, hydropower, coal gasification and renewable power generation, and supporting power transmission networks.

Pakistan and China have also agreed to collaborate in research on the integrated vision.

The proposal is also under consideration to establish oil refineries and storages along the CPEC route.

The document said that it was agreed by both the countries to utilize Pakistan’s own coal for the power plant and developing technologies for surface coal gasification, expansion and augmentation of coal mining sector.

Good development... China also needs to expand on exploration activities in Balochistan and offshore. Bolochistan and offshore Pakistan remains largely unexplored. ... Need some exploratory wells.

I am confident Pakistan can strike significant comventional pools as the probability is high.

From what i remember... A few years back after an earthquake there was an island that emerged offshore from Gwadar.... There were people lighting up gas flames as there was methane gas was leaking to surface... I.e. there are hydrocarbons there... Why hasn't any offshore drilling occured there???

Had to laugh at this thread's title considering neither country has considerable oil or gas

It isn't about conventional oil and gas production... But rather... "Pakistan’s own coal for the power plant and developing technologies for surface coal gasification, expansion and augmentation of coal mining sector."

Pakistan has 10,159 tcf of shale gas and 2.3 trillion barrels of oil deposits: USAID– estimates that are several times higher than figures given by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), reveals a study conducted with the help of US Agency for International Development (USAID).

Pakistan’s shale gas and oil reserves are 9th largest shale gas and oil reserves more than the combined reserves of Central Asian States put together, claimed Petroleum Ministry Adviser Zahid Muzaffar during the 22nd Annual Technical Conference (ATC).
