Pakistan blocks NATO supplies

Is any one going to file claim of damage to Pakistan's motorways and their repair costs over the last 10 years?

Or will it be Poor Pakistani will continue to pay for the IMF debts.

Due to Pakistani blockade of 12 days now US expenses hve increase 150% with 30% of their supply Stuck in Pakistan (that has no chance of releasing anytime soon) .

The fun will start when it's time to ask Congress for more funding.

It was the responsibility of Pakistani authorities to charge NATO the appropriate fees. There is no one to sue.

The majority of people are in countries that are present in Afghanistan and taking part in this war on terror in Afghanistan.

They all make demands. None of them is ready to back it by voting with their own feet and walking out of those countries who were part of that attack.

Prove your point. Before NATO attacks 60% of US non lethal supply(food, oil etc.) was coming through Russia and they had plan to make it 75% by end of December. In a couple of weeks NATO and Russia is going to have joint conference were they will discuss about missile shield dispute and Afghanistan.

Also, NDN cause US double the cost what they had using Pakistan but the Direct rail line between Riga and Mazar-e-Sharif make it free from custom checking delays, the dangerous road of Khyber pas and also it is safe from insurgents. Still, Russia route for US is 1/10 cheaper than the airlift.

The US has reduced it's operations against the insurgents now, and have put majority ops on hold.

Where are those people now who said that ISAF has stored enough for 7 months?

In 60 years Pakistan has done so much for US (cold war & WOT) in return common Pakistani got nothing but few on top benefited a lot. So why would US mind one man show in Pakistan but Zardari is now squeezed in both internal and external powers.

One phone call from white house put him under so stress as US want him to act, but Army is now angry and even its chief is in no position to Please US (as he did before to help Zardari).

If Zardari is no more in US interest (as he has lost his powers in Pakistan to obey US order) US will look for some one else , like his son or Pak Army again.

US has invested a lot on Zardari and he was important in their game and he had no problem with their demands but memo leak is a big set back .

If US will look at Pak Army again then India will not get a blank cheque in Afghanistans internal issues but US supplies will start flowing again.

BTW - Supplies through PAK is also free from custom checking, There is also drugs trafficking from AFG to PAK & World under cover of ISAF because of NO CUSTOM CHECKING. And, If NDN is ready for 75% supplies than there is no problem at all, they can air-lift remaining 25%. So Problem solved and Drugs business as well.

@Topic - We must close every kind of trade route to AFG. and heavily mine the borders, so there are no chances of coming/going of militants and must focus on screwing TTP & BLA if we want to save our integrity. NATO should help PAK in fencing the borders to stop any kind of infiltration.

Where is the proof/source to support your claims?

Russia doesn't allow oil or combat supplies to go through its territory and Russia-NATO relations are getting worse.

Permanent block is not possible and isnt in Pakistani interesset either. Pakistan need to review there policy with USA and should be clear about it. No more war. We can only allow USA route when they gona leave. In Afghanistan there should be "POLICE" from muslims country also India and there work must be only to be police unntil there is election and afghanistan has there own police force... Afghans runs there own country as they wish. Why i said India is to minimize any dout that we want only peace. We must together make this region new europe or even better.

But 1 million question is after USA leave Aghanistan how will the behave against Pakistan. I think they will get closer to India and will make hard life for Pakistan. But who cares either live with honour or as bhagrats.

What difference does it make? U.S. is already getting closer to India and making life hard for Pakistan. U.S. was never a reliable friend of Pakistan. Remember how we worked with U.S. against the Soviets then U.S. slapped sanctions on Pakistan and ran to India. U.S. never even sided with Pakistan regarding the Kashmir dispute. It was us naive Pakistanis who accepted cease fire in 1948 thinking if we became close with U.S. they would pressure UN to solve the Kashmir dispute.

Time for Pakistan to wake up. U.S. and other NATO countries will NEVER chose the Islamic Republic of Pakistan over india.

New record of longest blockade of Nato supplies


PESHAWAR: The previous 10-day record of blockade of supplies to Nato forces in Afghanistan was equalled Monday as around 3,000 oil-tankers and 4,500 containers involved in the business remained stranded in different parts of the country.

A new record would be established Tuesday for the longest blockade of Nato supplies passing through Pakistan. There is no indication when Pakistan would allow resumption of the supplies for the more than 140,000 US-led Nato soldiers in Afghanistan.

Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar and Interior Minister Rehman Malik, who talk too much and seem to know little about the mind of the military leadership, have even issued statements to the effect that the Nato supplies had been blocked permanently.

Shakir Afridi, President of the Oil Tankers Association, told The News that up to 900 oil-tankers and more than 800 containers were still loaded after starting the journey from the Karachi seaport to the Afghanistan border and on being turned back at various points on the way. “Almost all the oil-tankers have been taken to Mehmood Kot, the hub of fuel supplies in Pakistan near Multan. Many other oil-tankers and containers are waiting in Karachi or are parked at roadside hotels and terminals at different places in Sindh, Karachi and Balochistan.

We aren’t allowed to stay in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the tribal areas due to insecurity and fear of attacks so the drivers had to pull out all the vehicles from there and drive back to Punjab,” he said.

When asked how long they would keep the tankers loaded, Afridi said they have yet to make this decision and are in a quandary because it would be difficult to find a place to unload and store the 50,000 litres of fuel being transported in one oil-tanker only. “The Nato oil-tankers are bigger than the ones normally used in Pakistan that have the capacity of 40,000 litres. The containers are carrying goods weighing 40 to 50 tonnes. In fact, we are stuck and can neither drive these vehicles to Afghanistan nor unload. All we can do is to wait,” he added. Afridi claimed he and most other transporters are happy that the government has banned the Nato supplies.

NATO supplies blockade continues on 12th day

CHAMAN: The blockade of supplies to US-led NATO forces in Afghanistan continued on Wednesday on the 12th day. Pakistan closed NATO supply line after the deadly strike on two pakistani posts in Mohmand Agency and killed 24 soldiers dead on November 26.

The NATO-spearheaded operation slackened in Afghanistan hinged mainly on the supplies including fuel and other commodities routed through Pakistan, as according to Afghan officials, the NATO forces whittled down their activities and anti-terror operations owing to shortage of oil.

The operation underway in several districts of Kandahar has been left unfinished with the NATO troops settled back at their barracks.

Meantime, NATO’s routine actions are being adversely impacted, as according to unnamed Afghan sources, if the situation persists, reserves of eatables hitherto available with the armed forces will soon be exhausted.

Also, Afghan army is faced with mounting troubles spawned by the blockade of supplies.

Trucks with containers packed with NATO supplies are parked in long queues at Chaman and Torkham borders with spell of protest demonstration in progress across the country. People are demanding permanent cut on NATO supplies.

Oil tanker owners welcome ban on supplies to NATO forces

TORKHAM/PESHAWAR - Lingering on the border as they waited for a fourth day to cross into Afghanistan with supplies for NATO troops, Pakistani truck drivers sat waiting in fear of Taliban reprisals.

Stopped from driving over the border at Torkham since a blockade began on Saturday amid outrage over the killing of 24 Pakistani soldiers by foreign forces, the drivers sipped green tea nervously and awaited official orders.

“It’s relatively safe during the day, but the chances of a militant attack on these terminals increases manifold after sunset,” said 42-year-old driver Saheb Noor, nibbling on peanuts in one terminal housing NATO trucks.

It is a regular fear faced by the drivers who cross the border, keenly aware of regular gun and bomb attacks on convoys that supply the 140,000 foreign forces fighting the Taliban-led insurgency across the border.

But the blockade left some 100 trucks stranded for longer then usual, until orders came for them to drive off with no indication of when the border would reopen to allow them to attempt the hazardous journey again.

“We have sent all the 147 NATO oil tankers and containers back to Peshawar after receiving a new order from the high ups,” said senior local administration official Sheharyar Khan.

The dusty border town of Torkham has three heavily-guarded terminals, two for NATO containers, trawlers and oil tankers, and one for general goods sent to Afghanistan under a Transit Trade Agreement.

A thick layer of dust caused by the daily movement of heavy trucks and trawlers caked the terminal. Other workers sat around exchanging pleasantries and listening to Pashto songs on their mobile phones.

Local tribal police official Wali Khan, clad in traditional black cotton tunic and baggy trousers, or shalwar kameez, and covered with dust from head to toe, told AFP that he had been guarding one terminal since Sunday.

“If they target this terminal from the nearby mountains, I will be the first victim of their bullets,” he said fearfully.
Many drivers at the border expressed outrage over the cross-border strike by NATO on Saturday on a Pakistani military base - details of which remain murky.

“NATO should be trying to kill Taliban inside Afghanistan (not Pakistan),” said driver Suhail Amin, bemoaning the fact that he had no alternative but do such dangerous work.

“I have no other option but to carry NATO goods because there are no job opportunities or labour available in Pakistan,” he said.
Oil tanker driver Tauheed Khan said he didn’t think his government, heavily reliant on American aid money, would take long to reopen the Torkham crossing.
“I am sure that it will not take more than a month... Such decisions only add to problems of poor people like us,” he said.

Meanwhile, All Pakistan Oil Tankers Owners Association (APOTOA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Nasir Ali Khan has welcomed the government’s decision of suspending logistic supply to US led troops in Afghanistan and vowed not to allow any container carrying supply to NATO forces.

Dozens of workers and drivers associated with APOTOA led by Nasir Ali Khan, General Secretary Jan Muhammad Khan and Central Secretary Information Dost Muhammad held a protest rally to condemn the NATO attack on Mohmand Agency.
