Pakistan becomes world’s sixth most populated country

Pakistan has made it to number six on the list of most populated countries of the world, according to a recent report by the United Nations.

In a country mired with poverty and a large uneducated workforce, this population bomb could prove disastrous. Pakistanis are among the 60 percent people in this world who live in developing countries, the report which was launched to mark World Population Day claims.

The theme for this year is ‘development for teenage girls’. Teenage girls make up a large chunk of the 1.8 billion world population aged between 10 till 24.

As life expectancy world over has improved, the population is increasing at a rate of 1.8 percent every year, experts point out. Going by these figures at the break of the 22nd century 11.2 billion will inhabit the earth.

“Governments everywhere need to invest in teenage girls in ways that empower them to make important life decisions and equip them to one day earn a living, engage in the affairs of their communities and be on an equal footing with their male counterparts,” said UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Osotimehin in an official statement on the occasion of World Population Day 2016.

Since the year 1989, July 11 is observed as world population day.

Maybe Pakistan should adopt a 1 child policy, I don't think they will be able to handle things once it gets over 300 million.

How can you give a number like this when there is no Census in 18 years in Pakistan.

umm.....what the hell did you only just find this out Pakistan has been 6th largest for many years now . Do you think maybe it meant 5th largest ? Pakistan population is upgraded for a while now and listed at 201+ million according to most sources while no-5 Brazil is at 205+ million so difference already is tiny maybe it overtook recently.
It's possible it might be ahead of Brazil already since Pakistan under-counts census for political reasons.

How can you give a number like this when there is no Census in 18 years in Pakistan.

Population growth rate is known. The number of Cnic card made each year are known.

These estimates are very much close to actual figures. Simple maths is enough to calculate the population with 1-2% error.
