Pakistan becomes 104th country to ratify the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony which was held at United Nation’s headquarters in New York. Maleeha Lodhi, Pakistan’s permanent representative, deposited the Instrument of Ratification which was signed by the President of Pakistan at the ceremony.

“With the ratification, Pakistan has become 104th country to ratify the agreement, which entered into force earlier this month,” the Foreign Office said in a statement today.

Agreement Details
Pakistan did not waste time to make its stance on the climate situation public, as on the first day of the opening for signature in New York, Pakistan signed the agreement which was put forth.

It requires at least 55 countries to ratify the conditions for the agreement’s entry into force, which was met on October 5th of this year. The agreement requires the state members to keep global warming below 2 centigrade, which is regarded as the threshold for safety by experts and scientists.

Pakistan’s Role In Climate Change
Pakistan has played a crucial role in Climate Change negotiations. PM Nawaz Sharif, last December, led a delegation to Paris where Pakistan joined the international consensus on Climate Change.

Our ratification is a gesture to its commitment towards the cause. It also highlights that Pakistan is also committed to fulfill the objectives of the Climate Convention. The statement also read that viewing past efforts, it is most likely that Pakistan will perform well in regards to the Paris Agreement.

Pakistan is also a part of the ongoing Marrakesh Climate Change Conference, which will make important decisions and dictate the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

Islamabad: Pakistan has ratified the Paris Agreement on Climate Change at a ceremony held at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Dr. Maleeha Lodhi, deposited the Instrument of Ratification signed by the President of Pakistan.

On 5 October, the conditions for the agreement’s entry into force were met which required ratification by at least 55 countries, accounting for 55 percent of all global greenhouse gas emissions.

The agreement obliges member states to keep global warming below 2 centigrade regarded as the threshold for safety by experts and scientists.

With the ratification, Pakistan has become 104th country to ratify the agreement, which entered into force earlier this month. Pakistan had signed the agreement on the first day of its opening for signature in New York in April this year.

Pakistan’s ratification is in line with its firm commitment to the purposes and objectives of the Climate Convention. It also highlights the resolve of the Government of Pakistan to remain fully committed to the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

Pakistan has played a leading role in the Climate Change negotiations. The Prime Minister of Pakistan had himself led the delegation to Paris last December where Pakistan joined the international consensus on Climate Change.

This ratification by Pakistan also coincides with the ongoing Marrakesh Climate Change Conference, which is intended to take important decisions for the comprehensive implementation of the Paris Agreement and maintain the momentum achieved in Paris and subsequently.

Climate change effects pakistan greatly and Pakistan is not oblivious to the side effects of climate change not only to itself but also to the world. We are fully willing to cooperate wherever necessary and to take important steps to combat climate change. The KPK govt has focused on go green policy with its billion tree tsunami and although it has hit more than a few snags, it is still heading onward and is a positive step to the environment.

We simply demand that those nations that produce the CO2 emissions at its highest also take positive and concrete steps as the side effects of the apathetic attitude towards such a serious issue would be detrimental as we know these things do not know borders and the actions of just one nation can effect the entire region if not the world.

L O L, vehicles being produced in Pakistan were designed by Henry fords great great grandfather, trucks were deigned by Noah to make the ark and not to mention coal fired plants being built to produce electricity. These pee brain politicians or 2nd grade failed retards sign any kind of agreement, if they get a buck out of it.

How exactly are they going to achieve these targets, shut down not yet complete coal power plants, oil fired power plants? Commercial vehicles that are still using long extinct technologies, please some one explain this to me?

Think positively...you may use this agreement as reason to ask western countries to provide you with clean energy tech and material including the NSG membership....and don't forget, the mother of all deals..Green Climate Fund- there is a plan to provide US$100 billion a year in aid to developing countries for implementing new procedures to minimize climate change with additional amounts to be provided in subsequent years

What do you think they are going to ask for in exchange for money?

We don't have leaders we have seasoned politicians they want instant results, so they can use it to get reelected. Reductions in greenhouse gas emission means massive changes to way we live work and move that kind of change comes from leaders who are willing to make decisions that will benefit the country in long-term

Pakistani politicians can't even build a dam that would have cost billions less when it was purpose compare to know and you think out of the blue these retards are magically going to transform and start building dams and tear down coal and oil power plants, I don't think so
