Pakistan Army is Devising a new Defence Policy

That's a paradigm shift for the Pakistan Army. The prerogative for framing foreign policy and security is of the Army which has been the case since 1947. How come the sudden change in thinking? Seems the Army has finally realised the importance and need for more stake holders in such matters for viable and coherent foreign and defence policies.

No army want to shut the blame doors for our incapable politician, they want these looters to be held responsible for their action and not all the blame goes to army. When they dont make any policy and leave foreign policy on army just like it has been for last five years. now army wants it on paper in black and white

An impressive move.

A very impressive move. Although Pakistanis have been united through patriotism, it was post-facto patriotism, patriotism in the face of events that had already occurred, events that had been plotted and planned in the utmost secrecy months, sometimes years before. We must hope that involving the people, the 'stakeholders', in forming the national policy, there will be a clear elimination of the adventurism and the commando attitude, using the word in the sexual sense as well as in the normal sense, that marked many earlier decisions and developments. If this is the thin end of the wedge, we may even hope to see a repudiation of the concealed encouragement of terrorism which is sponsored by state organizations.

Let us hope that this glasnost will eventually lead to perestroika.

This is a merely another attempt to provide a veneer of political "respectability" without changing anything substantive.

Army has announced a defence policy, suggesting involvement of all stakeholders in policy making. According to sources the document prepared by Pak Army says military leadership cannot devise defence policy alone.

I wonder: do Pakistanis recognize the satire here?

A nation changes it's defense policy every couple of decades. New situations on the ground require new strategies. New technological advances require new tactics.

This is nothing new. Do you expect the American policies of 1800s to operate in the 21st Century? Every new US president has a different doctrine.

Get over yourselves.

Pakistani policy from 1949 doesnt take into account Pakistan's:
1. Nuclear assets
2. Cyber & Economical Warfare
3. Jet Age
4. The new challenges of asymmetric warfare
5. The changing environment of the Sub-continent
6. American policies to Asia (China, India, Japan, ASEAN, etc.)
