Pakistan, Afghanistan, ISAF sign border coordination agreement
By APP Published: November 20, 2012
KABUL: Chief of Army the Staff Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani attended the 36th meeting of the Tripartite Commission (TPC) held at the Afghan Ministry of Defence on Tuesday.
The meeting was a part of the ‘Tripartite Coordination Mechanism’ and was also attended by Acting International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Commander Lieutenant General Nicholas Carter and Afghan General Sher Muhammad Karimi along with their delegations.
According to the Inter-services public relations (ISPR), the participants reviewed ongoing military operations in Afghanistan and adjoining tribal areas of Pakistan. The meeting oversaw the signing of an agreement for improving border coordination, the Tripartite Border Coordination Mechanism.
The participants also discussed a transition of responsibility from ISAF to ANSF as per the plan to drawdown foreign troops by 2014 and measures to gradually enhance Pakistan-Afghan bilateral border coordination arrangements.
The three sides agreed to continue cooperation for enduring success, peace and stability on both sides of the border.
Before the TPC meeting, Kayani called on Afghan President Hamid Karzai at the Presidential Palace. Matters of mutual interest were discussed.

Note that we are not made aware of the substance of the agreement -- therefore there is no way for us to evaluate it - Omission or Commission?

Secret agreements with the US are a dangerous development - US is friend or foe depending on her evaluation of her interests at any given time - Can Pakistan really afford to be tied to such a reckless and fickle power?

Aw come now, you should trust your (military) leaders to do what is right for Pakistan, right? :D

I wish that were so - but alas

However, to the main issue, were the terms of this agreement understood by more people, that is to say if they were public, imagine how little opportunity there would be for either side to feel that they have gotten the short end of the stick - right?

It is a matter of time, that the CIA will once again, attempt to create an image of Pakistan as the fountainhead of evil in the Galaxy - better that Pakistan and the US be sober and lawyerly in their approach to each other, and secret agreements do not help either of the parties.

What is secret in border co-ordination agreement?
I understand.. mainly avoiding mistaken identity cases, identifying the border line.

Why add confusion to the confused people?

Pakistan's interest is suffered mainly by the transiting trucks, which is decided by the foreigners sitting in parliament.

Whatever happened to the promises made in parliament that ALL agreements with USA would be formalized on paper and published? Whatever happened to the inquiry into the beheading of individuals by men supposedly in Pakistan Army uniforms announced by Gen Kayani?

Accountability, like charity, begins at home.

The rest can follow later.

Pakistan is paid for the transit, and it does have the right to inspect any truck.

The afghans were hopefully reminded about what is at stake for them. Hopefully it has been instilled in them by now that allowing their territory to be used against Pakistan (by ANYONE) would yield disastrous consequences

Aw come now, you should trust your (military) leaders to do what is right for Pakistan, right? :D

A lot more than these bloody sell outs in Islamabad. Trust them with your life, at least they keep our national interests at heart; unlike your for-rent suit n tie traitors like haqqani

The real power still lies with the military. That is the reality.

Sure they do, right behind their own interests.

This no argument but your propaganda.

Military is an institution, where old retire and new come, while the foreigners in parliament never change.

Yeah, it must be mere propaganda. After all, what other COAS gives warnings to his country's Supreme Court when it says to prosecute retired generals and heads an Army that has declares Martial Law any time it wants to? :D

With all due respect, I think you might be confused

I can appreciate why you would say that, but then again, the evidence would indicate that I am not confused, but clearly correct, in saying that the Generals continue to put their own interests ahead of the nation's, unless you wish to argue to the contrary by presenting some counter-argument. I can also understand why your point of view is muddied by the manner in which such a blunt but unpalatable truth is wrapped up in the national flag.
