That how responsible states behave 1st if US actually did lie , Pakistan FO has told them to correct the mistake if uncle sams say BS than Pakistan will have reasonable justification to play phone recording

I think it is against the diplomatic norms to make such discussions public. However Pakistan called US bluff so now US is in an awkward position..It will either diffuse it and call it off by saying there was some mistake or misunderstanding or if it really tries to counter then the idea to make the call recording public can be floated and see how they respond.

It’s not about confusion - the state department language was clear, and the F.M. response was just as clear that no such language was used in the call.

It was a congratulatory message to IK. Granted, Trump should have done it, but the options were to refuse the call which would have been taken negatively or accept the congratulatory message. Perhaps the state department extrapolated the part about terrorists from ‘peace in Afghanistan’ to carry on with Trump’s public image.

Yes, this explanation makes much more sense. Still, President Trump should have congratulated IK on his election regardless of the state relations between the two countries.
