Pak Uses Terrorist Outfits as Proxies, Says US Army General

please check out this video Micheal has an advice for Americans to start acting like Adults to resolve the conflict

"You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else." - Winston Churchill.

That is still true. :D

Americans are open to suggestions now. ISIS is the new threat on the scene so their anchors and analysts are willing to go as far as favouring Afghan taliban vs this death cult. but first they need to sit down and stop fighting and accept the non Pashton leadership as equal/legitimate partners in ruling Afghanistan
thats where the challenge is and Pakistan can help but people on all sides have their own apprehensions.

I would not be surprised if, despite all the steps being taken, ISIS will finally make an appearance within Pakistan.

US uses paid mercenaries to fight its wars and create unrest in other countries, what's new?

Pakistan uses terrorist outfits as proxies: US army general Joseph Dunford

WASHINGTON: In a tacit acknowledgement that Pakistan continues to rely on terrorist outfits as proxies to serve as an instrument of national security policy, a top American general today told lawmakers that the US and Pakistan have differences on the issue, but asserted that financial and military aid to Islamabad would continue.

"Areas of divergent interest with Pakistan include our views on the use of proxies and the importance of a positive and stable Pakistan-India relationship," General Joseph Dunford, the nominee for the position of US Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the Senate Armed Services Committee in a written response to questions during his confirmation hearing.

Dunford said key US strategic interests in Pakistan are preventing al-Qaeda's resurgence in Afghanistan and Pakistan, to limit its ability to attack America, preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology, and promoting regional stability, including a peaceful outcome in Afghanistan.

Noting that the relationship with Pakistan is fundamental to the US' vital national security interests, Dunford said the US will need to continue cooperation with Pakistan to defeat Al Qaeda, support Pakistan's stability, and achieve a lasting peace in Afghanistan.

Responding to a question, Dunford said Pakistan has cooperated with the US in its operations against Al Qaeda and other terrorist organisations.

Pakistan's actions in North Waziristan and other areas of western Pakistan have disrupted groups that are a threat to US personnel and objectives in Afghanistan.

"We will continue to work with Pakistan to do more," he said.

too many chiefs in the village really.

Afghan taliban are loosing their men to ISIS so they are panicking
mind you ISIS is one that even has made Al Qaeda look puny. so there is a drive for self preservation.
American's NA (only) Afghan rule operation didnt work out and the decades of pashtons persecution by ultra racist northern alliance leadership gave room to Afghan taliban to regain the strength.
over the decade Americans made the call to sit down with Afghan taliban with the help of Pakistan which always favoured a settlement through dialogue given the area and the disruption of pashton population between Afghan Pakistan/.. it was impossible to stem the supply of Afghan taliban they simply dont welcome invaders and it dates back to British raj (well before the Indian nemesis i.e ISI) but they know that they cant defeat the American backed Kabul regime.

Americans are open to suggestions now. Public opinion of Taliban in India atleast is based on three major things:

1. Kandhar Hijacking Incident - Protection offered by Taliban to Hijackers.
2. Destruction of Buddha Statues - Destruction of Historical Monuments of cultural and religious significance
3. Strict Enforcement of Shariya - Barbaric acts against women were endless covered by MSM

Some people including me have always believed Taliban as the worst of human society but as you said ISIS makes Taliban look liberal in comparison.

The question exists though - Is there a moderate Taliban or they are just regular Barbarians wearing a moderate mask?

If extremists elements of Taliban can be eliminated and moderate ones can make peace with Kabul then this situation would be acceptable to all parties concerned.

The chief apprehension is what happens when Americans take their eye off the ball - Will extremists come back to power or will Pakistan exercise their influence keep them in check

I suppose the difference is that Americans develop proxies far from our shores, whereas others tend to develop proxies in neighboring countries, or even worse, internally. Proxies have a habit of eventually slipping their leash; at least the American proxies are far away from America, so we can better control the outcome when that happens.

When we start developing proxies in Mexico (or Canada, one can never be too complacent with the Canuckian horde next door), I will change my username to LeveragedKettle. Deal?

That's because you have absolute military dominance in your region.
