I have a better yindoo baniya idea, India will make the nuclear powerplant deep inside Indian territory, and Pakistan will buy power at a standard rate per unit. Lets keep trust building measures aside for the time being.

What does "joint" mean in the context of a nuclear power plant?

1. Pakistan own nuclear technology is far behind India's in sub 1000 MW reactors. They have not achieved any significant capability in NPP. It would be unwise to allow Pakistan access to better technology that India has developed.

2. In the 4000MW nuclear reactors that India is buying from other countries, these said countries would not allow Pakistan access as Pakistan is not signatory to NPT and has not been given a pass by IAEA like India has.

3. What benefit does India get out of this? It would almost be certain that India would be doing the heavy lifting in such a project.

Some very solid points raised contrarion. you are right. Pakistan is a non-signatory, US refused the same nuke deal it has with India to us. Furthermore as you noted India does have much larger capability in this regard. I was wondering how Mazari suggested this but always Pakistan has to benefit whenever she suggests anything which is why she is very well-liked.

The project suggested is beneficial to Pakistan and India may well have reservations over it. Personally I think the Siachen area as free trade area jointly administered by India and Pakistan is a much better idea than that.

1-It'll be hard to convince the Indian side on it.
2-Global players will not let this happen.

there are many factors including huge trust deficit which implies that such thing wont happen

P.S> the idea of plants being near border, even as proposal is stupid and impractical.

Such plants will be targets for terrorists and in case explosion(due to accident), radiation fallout may kill thousands from both sides.
