ANZA MK2 SAM for Malaysian Army

MALACCA: The Armed Forces' 10th Brigade Paratroopers rapid reaction force will soon get shoulder-fired missiles as additional firepower, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

He said the Anza MK-II surface-to-air missiles were scheduled to be delivered to the elite team in two or three months.

“We find that the team needs to be equipped with more weapons when deployed in remote areas to defend themselves from enemy attack,” he said, adding that all units in the forces would also get extra weaponry.

The Pakistan-made Anza MK-II anti-aircraft missile is a portable shoulder-fired infrared homing system.

Najib was speaking at a press conference after receiving the maroon beret and honorary airborne wings from the brigade at the Terendak Camp near here yesterday.

Armed Forces chief Gen Datuk Pahlawan Muhammad Azumi Mohamed was present.

Brigade commander Brig-Gen Datuk Muhammad Effendi Mustaffa said the award was given to Najib for his contributions to the development of the unit, providing him with lifetime membership as well.

Asked if there were plans to set up more elite teams, Najib said the 4,500-strong team was sufficient now.

“The team can respond to our requirements to be mobilised within short periods of time, either in an hour or five hours depending on the situation,” he said.

On whether there was a revision to the allowance for team members, he said there was no decision on the matter yet, adding that revisions were conducted from time to time.

Earlier, Najib inspected the Leading Para Battle Group parade.

Are you gone nuts? This is clearly a case of false editing done by some frustrated Kid. No Al-Khalid tank has been sold by Chinese. Perhaps if you come out of your biasedness and search more on net, you will find nothing on this piece of news

Iraqi Army receives Talha APCs from HIT pakistan

Grzegorz Holdanowicz JDW Correspondent

The Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq (MNSTC-I) recently finalised the distribution to the Iraqi Army of Pakistan's Heavy Industry Taxila (HIT)-manufactured Talha tracked armoured personnel carriers (APCs).

HIT signed a contract with the Iraqi Ministry of Defence in November 2004 for delivery of 44 Talhas, 60 Al Mohafiz Security Vehicles and 300 Aahan Armoured Guard Posts.

The total value of the contract is about USD31 million.

Following initial deliveries in March 2005, the Iraqi Army distributed 14 Talhas to its 3rd Division, which is responsible for security in north-western Iraq, while the remaining 30 vehicles have been issued to 9th Mechanised Division based in Taji near Baghdad.

Iraq is the first export confirmed customer for the amphibious Talha. Equipped with mounts for 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm machine guns, the Talha APC was developed by HIT based on the BAE Systems Ground Systems Division (formerly United Defense) M113 APC manufactured in Pakistan on licence.

HIT said it has introduced about 90 design changes to increase the vehicle's capabilities. Reports from Pakistan suggest that the Pakistani Army placed a contract in 2002 for 250 Talhas that were to be delivered in 2005 and 2006. Until recently no confirmation of the Talha APC's production had been available.

In the interim, an undisclosed unit of the 1st Division, Iraqi Intervention Force (IIF) has become the first confirmed foreign user of the Mohafiz 4 x 4 armoured cars, also developed and manufactured by HIT. An MNSTC-I spokesperson confirmed to Jane's that the Iraqi Army has received an initial 20 Mohafiz vehicles, although deliveries of the remaining 40 vehicles have been delayed or cancelled for unspecified reasons.

Although the first example of the Mohafiz was based on a Toyota Land Cruiser chassis, the vehicles for the IIF were built on a Land Rover 110 chassis.

The overall shape of the hull also differs slightly from that of the Toyota Land Cruiser chassis. The Mohafiz can carry eight people and is equipped with up to 10 firing ports in its welded aluminium hull. The vehicle has a bulletproof windscreen and run flat tyres. A manually operated one-person turret armed with a 7.62 mm PK machine gun and a two-part roof hatch are mounted on the forward part of the roof.

Iraqi Army divisions have also received some 100 Aahan Armoured Guard Posts, while the remaining 200 will be distributed over the course of the next couple months, MNSTC-I sources said.

Pakistan pavilion shut down after banned weapon ads caught at UK expo
By Gibran Ashraf
Published: September 16, 2011
Defence & Security Equipment international (DSEi) permanently shut down the Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) stand and Pakistan’s Defence Export Promotion Organisation Pavilion after promotional material was found on both containing references to cluster bombs at the London expo.
A DSEi statement said that promotional material was found containing references, which on closer inspection were found to be in breach of UK Government Export Controls and the exhibitions own contractual requirements.
The statement posted on the DSEi website further read that the British Government fully supported the decision by DSEi to close the stand and the Pavilion.
The Pakistani arms companies were found distributing brochures bearing advertisement for banned cluster bombs at the expo.
Cluster bombs, are banned in UK under the UK export control act 2002. They are also prohibited under the explicit acknowledgement of the exhibitors.

Brochures obtained from Pakistan Government companies clearly list cluster munitions including 155mm artillery ammunition containing 88 sub-munitions (weapons having an area of effect damage).
A brochure obtained from the Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) lists the 155mm BB DPICM (artillery ammunitin containing 45 sub-munitions).
While a brochure obtained from Pakistan’s Defence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO, Stand S7-265) entitled “Public and private sector companies and their commercial products,” listed the government owned POF (page 9) as able to supply 155mm HOW HE ICM M483A1 (cluster munition containing 88 sub-munitions).
The brochure also listed the Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE) [page 5, section e, sub point 3] being able to supply programmable sub-munition dispensers.
The objections were raised by a British Member of Parliament, Caroline Lucas. She also pointed out to the double standard of the exhibitors who were simultaneously holding a conference on cluster bombs, the “Second Meeting of States Parties to the Convention on Cluster Munitions” in Lebanon which seeks to eliminate the usage of cluster munitions.
The Guardian reported that some Pakistani arms manufacturing companies were also advertising gold plated sub-machineguns as ‘collectors items’.
Cluster bombs gained notoriety when the US used their infamous daisy cutters during their Afghan campaign.

interesting ... if i'm not wrong UK & co used cluster bombs during iraq & afghan wars which has caused massive cancer rates in Iraq and Afghanistan but God forbid if Pakistan was to show references to cluster munition in its literature all hell will break loose.
