Islamabad, Sept 30 : Newly elected Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari was acting like his predecessor Pervez Musharraf as he was bypassing parliament while taking decisions on major issues, like war of terror and matters related to foreign policy, the country’s Leader of Opposition Ch Nisar Ali Khan has said.

“President Zardari was pursuing policies of former president Pervez Musharraf who also had ignored parliament and took decisions on national issues on his own. Decisions on war on terror and foreign policy must be taken by parliament. Musharraf’s policies have completely failed and Mr Zardari’s policies will also fail,” he told reporters.

“Ironically, decisions about war on terror and foreign policy are being taken in Washington, instead of being decided by parliament,” the Dawn quoted him as saying.

Nisar said three vital issues — war on terror, foreign policy and the economic situation — should be discussed in parliament because it was the right forum to devise policies. “But we feel that that the president is following Musharraf’s pattern, imposing major national decisions which are being made by the United States,” he said and accused President Zardari of ignoring his announcement that his first official foreign visit would be to China, and instead going to Britain and the US.

Ch Nisar criticised the PPP-led government’s foreign policy and said it tilted towards the US and ignored friendly countries like Iran and China. (ANI)

I guess i have to agee with Ch.Nisar on this one specially on the last line about ignoring countires like China. Zardari needs to be checked w.r.t to his recent policies and the foreign policy should be formulated in the parliment before he or his ilks could cause more damage to Pakistan China relations or for that matter his policy towards the US needs to be revised by the parliment.
This pro US stance should now be dropped. Enough already:angry:

Didnt he say he wants the post of the President to be ceremonial-just like its in India. The real power to be with the Prime Minister. It seems he is in no mood to follow his own words. He is not giving up his powers.

Nisar's arguments certainly carry weight. But what should Zardari do? He is already indebted to the US govt, who have given him every thing. A clean slate by NRO and ten the presidency in a golden platter.

Zardari is looking for only one long stint as president and then disappearing of the political map leaving the PPP dead as a political champion for the poor. He may be facing alot of trouble politically but he has shaken hands with the US so he would survive to the end. Untill the powers of the president are not removed any president would use the parliament as a rubber stamp to simply pass as he pleases and that is what Uncle Sam really wants to deal with one person not with 300.
