In continuation of its efforts to contribute towards the welfare of the people of Balochistan, the Pakistan Navy (PN) organised a three-day free medical camp in Jiwani for the aid of the local populace. The doctors at the camp treated more than 7,000 people suffering from various ailments.
To provide skilled medical treatment and advice to patients, gynaecologist, surgical, eye and child specialists were positioned at the camp. The specialists also conducted minor surgeries, along with provision of free medicines. A laboratory was also set up for blood, ultrasound and x-ray tests.
The medical camp was also aimed at educating the locals on prevention measures, child healthcare and sanitation. Deteriorating maternal health and nutritional deficiencies were other areas focused upon.
Jiwani has only one rural health centre and few private clinics for about 35,000 inhabitants.
The PN establishes free medical camps for the coastal region on biannual basis. In the last medical camp at Gwadar, more than 3,000 patients were treated of which 327 were children with helminthiasis, dysentery and malnutrition other common medical diseases registered were scabies, poor skin hygiene with poor care of skin appendages, allergic disorders, catric ptreygium, anemia and carries with poor dental hygiene.
