ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is very likely to lift ban off export of cement to India latest by next month, which will follow transportation of cement to neighbour through land route, Geo News reported on Monday.

Federal government sources told Geo News, a summary seeking ratification on export of cement to India through Wagha route has been sent to cabinet by ministry of Trade and Production.

He informed that a notification was likely to be issued after prime minister’s approval.

It is pertinent to mention here that the ban on cement export to India was put in place after the Mumbai mayhem. India is facing acute shortage of cement at this point of time.

India would allow Pakistan to import many goods and material in exchange of cement, sources hoped.

Meanwhile, the trade community has hailed promotion of trade with India, adding that trade ties after coming back on track would serve masses and industries here alike.

Should not India export whatever it can anyway, if pakistan does not export cement they lose money, why should we stop exporting anything.
Indian cement companies should be penalized for creating a cartel and jacking up price, but thats a different issue.

First of all Pakistan has to create markets for its good. Like developed countries where they have a rating for their trading partners. Pakistan should also develop a rating system. If at any time any country play wrong in business, immediately its rating should be dropped. So any country who want to do business with Pakistan, they have to maintain good rating. They should add different criteria for rating e.g. Volume of trade, length of trading time, types of goods etc. Government with the help of the chamber and commerce of the country should build up this rating list. After that any company should be allowed to do the business with any country. If some country has a good rating their tariff rates will be low, low exercise duties, low deposits with federal bank ( state bank of Pakistan) and any country having low rating will end up paying more tariff rates, high exercise duties, high deposits in the SBP.
I think these sorts of trading formulas are used all over the world. Then nobody has to be panic, about any sort of foul play. Or some country is using Pakistan because they have shortage of certain goods, but after that will give the cold shoulder. Even if any country does it, ultimately they will pay more price.

In international market, all the countries use rating system. The rating depends on countries past business dealing. This is not a bad practice. Countries like Pakistan, where international trade most of the times is under the influence of politics rather than some certain international business. I think these countries should also come out of political umbrella.
Secondly, countries of south east Asia, now should go towards regional markets such as European union. Economic growth can solve lots of problems.

any link where I can read about this rating system for import and export. Pretty new to me. For example does US have a rating for India and pakistan?
Is it not against WTO rules to have such preferential tariff for each country.

Finally, are you making things up?

All the European country and America has rating of every country. You could say they have list of favorite nations and most favorite nations. Pakistan export is reduced very low in the late 1990's due to losing the status of favorite nation.
India has good standing with the Europe and America, other than the geographical importance which india is enjoying, they are still in the list of favorite nations.
As far as the WTO is concerned, it is nothing other than just stopping the unwanted nations from trade.
what my point was that Pakistan instead of deciding the trade between the countries politically, they should decide it on standard mechanism. That mechanism should be decided by the Chamber of commerce and industry and they should decide the trade status of the country.

Naah, we are still using mud instead of cement :D

They also have mountains.

True, we use mountains for Trekking, Sight seeing and they are national monuments :D

We have keep our resources within our country. For our future.

Bang on target, absolutely correct. Pakistan should keep their resources for their own use

I am asking for last and final time, please give us a link to the scheme you are talking about (being implemented in the 'west'). MFN is political and not based on any standard mechanism you mentioned.
I am not against your idea though, I quite like it.
