NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday cornered Congress after it was revealed that the party-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government had hired Pakistan's Khawar Qureshi to represent India in the “sensitive” Dabhol power project case in 2004.

Notably, Qureshi was the counsel of Pakistan before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the case of Indian spy Kulbhushan Yadav. However, he has now been replaced by Pakistan's Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf Ali.

Addressing a press conference a day after Zee News Editor-in-Chief Sudhir Chaudhry on his show Daily News and Analysis (DNA) revealed that Qureshi was recommended by law firm Fox Mandal for the Dabhol power project case, the BJP today ‘exposed the hypocrisy of Congress’.

Salve also criticised the Pakistani delegation’s submission to the ICJ that India has not proved Jadhav was an Indian. He said they contradicted themselves at the court.

“The one comment I couldn’t resist is that he (Jadhav) was an Indian spy, but the lawyer said that we have not proved that he was an Indian national. I don’t know where they are coming from on that,” he said.

“Here, the allegation is that he is an Indian spy trained in India, but then the lawyer also made the point that India has not proved his nationality. So, anyway, this is a kind of contradiction,” he said.

The lead Indian attorney said he doesn’t believe the verdict in the case will take long “because of the note on which it ended today.”

The world court ordered Islamabad to give consular access to Jadhav.

“Pakistan shall take all measures to ensure that Jadhav is not hanged until a final decision by the court”, said ICJ judge Ronny Abraham.

“The circumstances of his arrest are in dispute... India should have been given consular access as per Vienna Convention”

He explained all the related points very well. Nowhere the court ordered any consular access YET. It says Pakistan should not hang KBJ before final verdict by ICJ.

The video was not necessary to be played since it was NOT a trial to determined whether Kalbhushan is a terrorist or not the ICJ hearing was about consular access claim of India.

This court only gives its verdicts it will not enforce them. Failing to enforce icj decescions do have some repurcursions.

He was hired in 2004 I guess, it was the decescion by upa they thought he is good for that case. I am not saying he is not a good lawyer, he did contradict himself during the argument.
