Save

Completed at a cost of $44 million till June 2018, the Rawalpindi to Khunjerab Pak China optic fibre project will convert the trade corridor into a digitized corridor. The CPEC’s (China Pak Economic Corridor) 820 km long project will be completed by China’s Huawei and Special Communication Organization (SCO) according to Muhammad Adil who is the SCO Senior Project Manager.
He added that the project is advantageous for strategic linking between the countries by not only revenue generation but also safe voice traffic routes. Adil also said that it would provide an alternative world trade source while awareness about trade, tourism and IT will follow in Gilgit Baltistan.
The project
It was in May that the foundation stone of the project was laid this year. An 18.2 km portion would pass through the federal capital, 466 km through GB, 280 km from KP and 47 km from Punjab. This way it would reach Rawalpindi through Karimabad, Gilgit, Chilas, Babusar Top, Mansehra and JaryKas. The final phase approval of expansion till Gwadar is also going on for international linking.
