PAF suspends “Air Force Development Plan 2025,” says report

ISLAMABAD: Due to financial constraints and non release of funds by the federal government, the Pakistan Air force (PAF) has suspended its up gradation and development plan called “Air Force Development Plan 2025,” says a report of the Senate’s standing committee on defence Thursday.

The committee quoted Air Chief marshal Tahir Rafique in its report, who, it said, told the committee members during its recent visit to the air headquarters that the AFDP 2025 programme was launched in 2003/04 by former president Pervez Musharraf aimed at making it at par with modern air forces of the world.

He said under the plan, the PAF received money by the federal government till 2007.

“After 2007 PAF did not get a penny from federal government and had to shelve the plan,” the air chief was quoted as saying in the report by its Chairman Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed.

The report further said that due to suspension of the development plan, PAF had to close number of projects which have affected the overall up gradation in the country including air bases, jets and other facilities.

The report also quoted air chief as saying that the PAF was also not given full share in the defence budget and it received only 60 per cent of the whole budget allocated for PAF.

Pak needs to start mining its natural resources now.Tax reforms are near impossible in society controlled by feudals like sharif.
I read pakistan has many mineral resources in FATA and balochistan,but not extracted.To extract these resources PA must first defeat BLA and TTP,otherwise foreign companies won't invest capital needed for extraction due to lack of security.
Even more than jf-17 i think this will hurt any chnace of PAF getting 5th gen aircraft which are very costly at around 100 million dollars min.

Since 2002 no new energy was made??? What kind of a line is that, does that make any sense? Or do you mean that no new power projects were launched/completed? If the later is the case then perhaps you should google the projects that were initiated by the 'dictator' and completed within his tenure. Not just that, we all know that even today we have the production capacity to fulfill our needs.......but today, we do not have the budgets to provide gas/oil to IPP's or to run even federally owned power units at projected capacity.

If a civil war does indeed break out, all we have to do is invade Kashmir and Indian response will unit the country in no time. We can then return to the de facto position and offer India a truce and a permanent solution to Kashmir

Actually there had been payments under AFDP after 2007 (until 2012 I guess). I have seen some insider's posts on sister forum regarding this. Can't comprehend the meaning of "no allocation of funds after 2007."

I guess the PAF gets regular funds which includes capex and opex and then there was some special budget for this modernization plan which has not been released. Not just that, the PAF has also complained of receiving just 60% of its actual allocated budget.....maybe the Army ate up the rest of the budget or perhaps the reimbursements from USA never came through.

On the chopping block!! I wonder what the budget was for this AFD Plan? As like the 50 JF-17 fighter jets that China gave for a song to Pakistan, I think by 2025, they would have considered selling their new J-31 'stealth' fighters for peanuts too, as Pakistan is one of their few all weather friends! That should fit the budget of the Air Force Development Plan 2025!

'suspends' means temporarily stopped or delayed. we all know that...once they start getting funds, the development plan will re-start with new deadlines / timelines.
