PAF starts upgradtion of old F-16s

Pakistan had signed an agreement with the US for purchase of a total of 111 F-16A/B aircraft in early 80s. However, of these, 71 were embargoed by the US under the infamous ‘Pressler Amendment’ due to Pakistan’s nuclear weapons programme. Of these 71, 28 were actually built but were flown directly to the AMARC at Davis-Monthan AFB for storage.
Various efforts were made for acquisition of these 28 aircraft over the years, various plans were conceived for these 28 aircraft: Pakistan wanted to get the aircraft or their money back; they were offered to various nations, none of which were interested; ultimately, the US Navy and USAF entered them into service as aggressor aircraft.

Any Updations on this, sir 'fatman17' ??

If we see a link in here, US wanted to force Pakistan to stop its nuclear program ' Of these, 71 were embargoed by the US due to Pakistan's nuclear weapons program.'

There is a thread on this too.

Good news but i was really excited to see something new bcz of the Headline but it turned out to be an old news. :frown:

Anyway think if all F-16's get MLU by the end of 2011 (a bit impossible) then it would be really great!!!:yahoo:

.
Not only this,

The most exciting is Pakistan doing to complete works on time in one year!

i.e Upgrading old jets to new F-16 Blk 52 (will be in 2012)
-Fourth F-22P will be completed in 2012
-J-10B will be final testing trial, it will be a big year for Pakistan in 2012 so as upgrading JF-17s Blk2

2012!

:pakistan:

.
its 1 aircraft per month!
they cant upgrade all in one year! impossible!

and btw upgrading "suppose" to start last year in october, if it did start in october then we have atleast 3 upgraded f-16s in our fleet..
but i doubt it started last year...
itwill take more than 3 years to upgrade all of f-16s

this whole upgrading program costed about $75 million

.
Its good we are upgrading F16 Blk.15 to Blk.52 but we need a better aircraft to counter SU-30 MKII like SU 35 or Rafale, F-16 alone are not enough due to numbers 60-70 F16 vs 250 SU-30MKII + 200 5th Gen Jets + 120 MIRC tender air crafts + Mig 29 Upgraded ones, Jaugs.. man take break no matter how good our air force is but we need to counter it how only 36 FC-20 ..no wake up call for PAF...in addition long range SAM's a must !!

.
Upgradation is a positive step to bring the F-16s up to par with current 4th generation aircraft. 70+ F-16s need to be combined with a potent force multipliers like the J-10s and addtional JF-17s.

PAF should aim for a force of 500+ multi-role fighters and PN should also have an independent air wing with 100+ aircrafts. Short, medium and long term plans need to be put in place to meet the growing security needs of Pakistan because air power will be decisive factor for all conflicts of the future.

.
Just heard it on morning news that PAF is now undertaking the upgrade of its old 40 odd F-16's after completion of the delivery of new F-16's. The upgrade would be completed in two year's.

I hope people understand how truly excellent the F-16 was, and is. A combination of great engineering, and a dose of luck and serendipity, created a modern "MiG-21" that will see use for decades. And unlike the MiG-21, upgrades are much easier, with radar replacements, ECM boxes, targeting computers, etc.

Everything about the -16 is superb - outstanding visibility, acceleration, turn performance, accurate A2G, and now a definite BVR threat. The light "Day Fighter" of 1979 is now the work-horse of many Air Forces.

Interestingly, a clean F-16 out-ranges a clean F-15.

thanks Chogy....as I am aware, however, you are very much against CFTs (appearance) :)
