Just wondering whether this type of refueling prob adds significantly to RCS.....I heard that JSF would have a adjustable refueling prob....anyone on this?

. . . . . .
So what happens if the fuel leaks and goes into engine
The fuel doesn't begin to transfer until the probe has formed an air-tight seal with the drogue and locked on. This means that, if there is a fuel leak, it won't be a huge one. If a little bit of fuel ends up in the engine, it's shouldn't pose a serious problem, and at most, you will end up with unburnt fuel coming out of the engine. If, for some reason, a lot of fuel is being spilt, the pilot can disengage and fly away.

But, this would still be a very interesting question to ask someone with more knowledge on this specific subject. Good question.

It can turn either into a fire or just a fuel thrown out by the exhaust.

And the best precautionary measure would be to turn off the engine!
my 2 cents..:D

Apart of joke fellows, a simple explanation is that at such a height and speed, surrounding in tremendous air (atmospheric) pressure, leaked fuel simply cannot remain stagnant and within a millisecond, it evaporates so no harm for the aircraft or pilot. Fuel leak happens all the time during air refueling.

On topic though, JFT has a Swedish re-tractable refuel probe. :)

Hi Mr. Nabil_05, can you kindly shed any details on how you know the JF-17 will have a Swedish retractable fuel probe? I read on the Asian Defence Blog that the JF-17 was testing two configurations, one static and the other one retractable. Thanks!

Bit old news but worth posting since the discussion.

Pakistani air force has procured four Ilyushin Il-78P Midas Air-to-Air Refueler aircraft from Ukraine.Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) are fitted with a three-point drogue refueling system and the internal fuel tanks that were stocked up in Ukraine since the days of the USSR.Main purpose of purchase of the IL-78 tanker/transport aircraft is to support the PAF's future fleet of JF-17s of which PAF is looking to acquire more than 250.

JF-17 Thunder is also being flight tested with both fixed and retractable in-flight refueling probes. PAF will be able to refuel its JF-17 Thunder fighter aircrafts before the end of this year.JF-17 Thunder will carry C-802A Anti-Ship missile with range of 180 Km for maritime strike role to support Pakistan Navy.

PAF has successfully tested Mirages already using these tankers and probes.
