PAF constructing 600 houses for flood victims
Updated at 2315 PST Thursday, January 20, 2011

KARACHI: Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in the first phase was constructing 600 houses for the flood victims in the country.

This was stated by Air Vice Marshal Arshad Quddus, Air Officer Commanding, Southern Air Command PAF, when he called on Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, at C.M. House here on Thursday.

He discussed matters of mutual interest and informed the Chief Minister Sindh that Pakistan Air Force was constructing 600 houses in first phase for flood affected people in the country, out of which 100houses are being constructed in Sindh province.

He said that the houses with latest package are being constructed and the same will be given to the affected people.

Air Vice Marshal informed that lists of affected people are being finalized in consultation/recommendations of respective DCOs / EDOs (Revenue) of the province while notables of areas are also being coordinated.

He further informed that those houses are being constructed simultaneously across the country. He also informed that next phase will be started later.

Chief Minister Sindh appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Air Force and hoped that maximum houses will be built and provided to flood affected people.

Great move! Sindh and KP have suffered the most in terms of destruction. Though it's not much but this will help.

I don't understand how is it not Pakistan building 600 homes? Is PAF not part of GOP? Its only in Pakistan that GOP and Army is treated as separate entities, strange.

You don't understand - each of the armed forces have adopted villages - or area's for reconstruction, same with other institutions - can you please give the cynicism a rest.

Thanks for ranting.... nd yeah forces are not a prt of Govt but seperate entities... PAF is building these houses frn their own budget not the defence ministry............. So stop trolling.

Ok guys try counting the 'obviously' in my post (obviously some people need more neural cell bodies to understand certain commonalities).

As if there wasnt any appreciable news in this particular news-piece that you still were able to dig out the bad part. Bravo! You are some pessimist of the highest order! Congrats on that.

Ok.

Now a word about the issue at hand. PAF is building the houses out of the fund that it was able to collect because of the flood plea, that is to say it's the flood relief fund collected specifically by the airforce. Now the thing is that most of this fund was generated by the Officers and Airmen from the PAF. Though the fund was ultimately deposited in either the PM's Flood Relief Fund or the President's Relief Fund because obviously the PAF (Army or Navy etc) were collecting the funds on the behalf of/for the govt and not for itself.

And now to your sheer disappointment the PAF decided to built these houses by putting in a huge share from its own pocket (NOT out of the budget) and it obviously made the news, which obviously has fallen hard on your senses and thus the squeak. So as the houses are being made by the PAF (by utilizing its own expertise, manpower etc) and are also being paid by the PAF so the common sense would obviously tell is that the "Houses are being built by the PAF (and obviously not the GoP)", but then this can be too subtle for guys like you.

As for 'Why the Govt is missing out', well the govt did/is still doing its part, though the effort done so far are wanting. Also as GoP has not done something extraordinary (like some Minister selling half of his property to fund the relief fund etc) so it doesnt make news that often. Moreover, as the reconstruction and rehabilitation is a NOW routine work that is to say is being carried out under a grand scheme so it seems quite a common thing which in turn doesnt hit the news every now and then. Even, if few of them did make news, they obviously were not quoted/posted here on PDF (obviously because the world does not revolve around a 'true_indian', alas!), but hey, dont be disappointed, here let me make you smile:

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed between Turkey and the Punjab Government for the construction of 2,120 modern houses in flood affected districts: Flood funds: Turkish government helping build homes – The Express Tribune

The Sindh government has decided to construct 3,000 model villages and 6,400 new schools in flood-affected districts of the province, announced Adviser to Chief Minister on Planning and Development Kaiser Bengali:

The news didnt even mention the word Army anywhere! What a numskull!

Alas, Its strange because no other country would want its army to build houses. Army's duty is to protect borders not build houses. It only happens if army thinks GOP is incapable or doesn't trust it. Anyways its your country do whatever you like. I thought PAF is part of Army.

the stupidity displayed in this post is glaring. an example to parallel PAF efforts is in the U.S. where the National Guard helps to reconstructs homes after a disaster. now please stop making a fool of yourself.

@Jana

Alas, now I need to take advice from rupeenews journalist? Pray tell me, whats the main responsibility of PAF?

I believe the noun form is 'intellect'
Shouldn't you refrain from personal attacks being a senior member?
