PAF bases put on high alert
By: Our Staff Reporter | February 06, 2013
ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Air Force has put its all bases on high alert, following a terrorist attempt on one of its bases in Karachi.

According to PAF spokesperson Group Captain Tariq Mehmood, unidentified miscreants hurled two crackers/hand grenades in front of the PAF base located at Shahra-e-Faisal.

One pedestrian got injured, who was shifted to Jinnah Hospital for first-aid, he said. “Security agencies are in full control of the situation and are carrying out investigation into the incident and taking help from CCTV footage. The security on all the PAF air bases has been put on high alert,” Mehmood said.

Staff Reporter from Karachi adds: A bicyclist was injured when some unidentified criminals threw a hand grenade near PAF Base Faisal on main Sharah-e-Faisal. Police said that a bicyclist, Izhar, son of Ghulam Haider, was injured in the attack. The injured was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment. Initial investigation suggested that two armed riders were involved in hurling the grenade at main Sharah-e-Faisal.

A TV channel, quoting eyewitnesses, reported that some unknown attackers hurled at least five grenades at the gate of the base and fled. “It would be quite premature to comment on it as investigation was under way”, said a police officer on the ground. He said: “We are trying to gather eyewitness accounts to determine: What sort of vehicle(s) attackers were driving? How did they look like? What were they wearing? What language did they speak?”

Heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies were deployed at the site after the attack. Rangers, police, and PAF personnel have cordoned off the area.

Bomb disposal squad searched the area to ensure there would not be any device planted there.

This was probably a rehearsal for what's to come. To test the security and reaction at the base.

But wasn't it reported earlier that it was fire crackers? Is it same or different attack?

Can't tell difference between fire cracker and hand grenade? :undecided:

Most probably something is on the rented terrorist desk given to them by their masters, which is to attack Pakistan Military Bases or sensitive areas.

I wish this person was caught & was tortured to extract info out of him.

I thought crackers were "patakhas"?

Grenades are more dangerous and lethal, right? Maybe terrorist wantet to create a diversion?
