The only crime of Taliban and Afghanistan was that Usama was in Afghanistan along with his organization members and Taliban refused to hand over Usama without a proper trial (exactly as per international laws). Taliban also offered to conduct trial outside Afghanistan in an independent third country and agreed to hand over Osama Bin Laden to that third third country.

However, USA did not want free and fair trial of Osama and attacked Afghanistan and killed thousands of innocent people who had no relationship with 9/11 including Taliban.
