Our generals hide their shortfalls behind the heroism of the fighting troop

Such claims of your side being weak, and accepting it are good tactics to make your enemy believe that your defense is weak and they would not give as much importance or time to this force which agrees on being weak, for the threat is not great why should there be any fear from them? Articles like these are to cool the other side's Generals in attempt to hope they start taking things a bit lighter than they should and the fact remains otherwise, hence taking your enemy with a surprise in the battlefield.

Pakistani Generals are not stupid to not take India as a threat due to their inventory or the things they lack in. The worst mistake one can do, is taking any kind of threat lightly, despite how strong your army and field tactics are. The day an Army starts to feel the threat from it's enemy is reducing is the day the Army starts marching towards it's own doom.

It's not directed at the Pakistani's but intended as self criticism or rather as a wake up call citing an ill prepared defense even at the most basic of levels. Self criticism does go overboard sometimes but that's on expected lines. One things for sure India's defense procurement system leaves a lot to be desired in it's implementation and is way below average. We don't get the maximum bang for a buck spent, it's way pathetic and even if we improve it to get a bang for 10 buck's it would be an achievement in India.

Reams of red tape gets expended by the time something worthwhile passes through the tiny hole that gets pried open by such criticizing press or a capable head of defense / ministry.

. . .
Sometimes i feel top brass of IA and defence ministry are a bunch of idiots...We have a defence budget of $40 billion but haven't modernised our artillery for ages, lacks proper production line and reserve amount of ammunition..Even the infantry weapons are crap-the ones like INSAS and its variants..What the hell are we spending these billions on then..?

Now you're really beginning to scare me. Read Brig. Nadir Mir without a gun at my head? The possibility is not entirely absent, but is unlikely.

I asked in a private mailing list whether brigadiers should be banned from writing columns on strategy. Simple Simon comes to mind; before he started bringing order and discipline to the PTI, he used to write a lot. An old ex-fauji (ex-PAF) friend replied with the brutality permitted to an old friend that Gurmeet Kanwal kind of balanced things out.

While that was a pretty drastic squelch, it was also apt. As usual, our Brigadiers are better than your Brigadiers; when they set out to be something (say, horses' arses), they achieve it quicker and better than the Pakistanis.

Last Hope might like to consider whether he really meant what he advised, more reading of Nadir Mir. It seems like cruel and unnatural punishment to me.

Everyone has their own perspective while you dislike Nadir, most Pakistani on this forum appreciate what he writes with his experience over Balochistan.

And the only thing I agree with over here, is that yes Brigadiers and Retired Brigadiers must stop writing columns, all retired officers should. They can better write and publish good books on their experience and knowledge, or history, but not columns. There are many differences in both approach.

I tried to read some. Here, a sample:

Apparently, Pakistan Army is the target. It is being assailed by friends and foes alike. The army, which has stood like a rock in the country’s defence, is the hurdle for its enemies. Our enemies believe that by weakening the army and demonising the ISI,Pakistancan be denuclearised and balkanised. This is, indeed, the illogic of imperialist-hegemonic powers.

Another gem:

Buzz words like GWOT, non-state actors, al-Qaeda, Haqqanis, Blackwater and terrorists served as a ‘Strategy of Deflection’. First, the US aim was to use Pakistan’s assets to help defeat the Taliban and al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. Second, shift Islamabad’s strategic orientation away from New Delhi so that India could be pampered to compete with China and also entrench itself in Afghanistan (both were part of the neocon geopolitical wish list)

What is he, a softer version of ZH? The usual rhetoric. Every wrong in Pakistan has its origin from foreign powers. RAW/CIA. All to ruin Pakistan to serve some greater purpose.

I am sure you have better writers in Pakistan.

The only balancing factor is that our dimwits are dimmer than their dimwits.

But they are not so widely acknowledged as their counterparts on the other side of the border. It fine to have idiots spouting nonsense, as long as people don't take their words to heart.

Though, we are not suffering from endless wars and dont need to pay any heed to them.
