Talib is student at local madrassah. Every evening he is sent to collect roti and salan from houses of the area. His age is 6 - 10. He is in madrassah to seek knowledge but his self-esteem is undermined and his focus is shifted. It is clear that madrassah isn't able to sustain boarding of the student. Madrassah shouldn't accept students. Something is missing here to provide secure environment for the students.

Apart from a genuine concern, i see an agenda on this thread. Madrassas are really unregulated at the moment, but they have got enough funding to feed the students. What is your purpose here ? Context?

Although i accept, that these cases are quite common, Madrassas are unfortunately headed by again, stupid and not so visionary people, they bring up kids to take Quran as profession by teaching to local kids and earning. Rather, madrassas (some really are good ones in this regard), should promote worldly education as well so as to keep the future prospects open and join some profession as well as have a wide knowledge of both the world and the religion

Our madrassa system is a total failure, apart from a few well run, well funded institutes.

Many just produce halwa molvi's and not alims. Their students have limited literacy/numeracy, limited reasoning skills, limited awareness of the world, limited knowledge of hadith and fiqh. They can recite Quran, some are Hafiz of Quran, they know verses and duas by heart - but are unaware of the meanings. They fulfill the rituals of an imam, but not the spiritual or communal duties of an imam.

Ultimately GOP is to blame for this failure. The constitution assures everyone a free education upto age of 16.

Are u from mars or unaware of ground realities. There are millions of families, mostly workers and poor, in Pakistan the poor tend to want many children. As a result, almost every family has 5 to 10 kids. They can barely feed them, educating them is impossible for the family. Govt schools are free but they cant afford books, uniforms, other stuff. In comes the option of madrassah, free education, free residence, free food, free books, free clothes. This means the family doznt even have to care abt food expenses of their kids. They also are religious so the added attraction to make ur kids better muslims.

Now some madrassas arw funded by locals or religious NGOs etc and some face hardships. In that case the people of the area feed them. I dont know which area u from but where i live, we used to happily give them food every day, twice a day and the odd feast as well. We just shared with them what we eat. For the collection purpose, they sent the kids. I dont see what is wrong with that. Its surviving in a poor country, sharing and caring for each other. I dont know what is that u want to prove?
If a teenager in west works as a waiter, or a cleaner, u ppl say its being independent and say its good but if a poor kid in a poor country survives, u mock it and have a problem with it. What is ur solution?

But that Talib believes Allah feeds all and not mortals.

I think the point you are trying to make is how people poor in material wealth are mocked by society. Which is true to some extent as the society practices the old caste system of the Indus river.

Some madrassahs are doing really good but all these madrassahs are affiliated with one governing body. It exposes internal structure and check and balance of the governing body. The charity and donations collected by madrassahs should go to central reserve fund and from there it should be issued to each madrassah as per number of students staying there.

Even after that if there is contingency to collect food, it isn't job of students but madrassah should arrange adult volunteers to do this service.

In every part of the world students do work to meet expenses. Madrassah students should also be allowed to do work to make pocket money. Holding bowl isn't the way.

Govt should start reforms of madrassahs from here i.e. structural changes so that students feel security of every kind. Syllabus changes can be brought later on.

Madrassahs and schools that don't have playground should be demolished and made a playground. And ask the administrator to rent a nearby building for classrooms. Is it hard now to arrange a playground?

Children of drug addicts are the ones mostly don't get our attention. They lack safe and healthy environment in their very own homes. Child protection bureau should pick such children. CPB needs to be made more active and resourceful to reaches out to such children at their homes.

Auto repairing is a big market and children have become integral part of a mechanic's workshop. There's is demand for this cheap and mouldable young work force. Supply is also not short.

Children can't be separated from it so easily but govt can refine the condition by starting under 15 vocational training institutes. So the children who can't spend years in formal education will get couple of years of training with basic education and then join the auto mechanic market and start earning.

We should initiate a nutritional drive for children up to the age of 10 as an extension of polio vaccine program. Prevention of polio isn't enough. We need healthy and active children as well. So it will come as a complete package. It'll be appreciated by the children.

That's what I say. Own your people, they will win World for you. It's not just that Madrassa students, it's just everyone in Pakistan. A man who just got retired. A child who just got orphan. A woman who just got widow. A man who lost his legs. A dog on street, born there. A tree standing on road, with lot of dust, still providing oxygen. A man working on literature, but his children are hungry. An engineer who made a software which was pirated in Pakistan. An author who wrote a book, and photocopy of that book is available in market already. A shopkeeper who pays protection money to gundas, and to govt as well. A young girl, who goes to college, and her mothers heart keep beating arrythymic till she returns safely to home.

Currently there's no activity regarding promoting children's items. There are things for sports, food, dress, medicine, education, learning techniques and even confectionery. We can invite world companies to display their products in an exhibition. This way we can exchange ideas and experiences and bring new products to our market and send ours abroad.
