There's a thing called 'commitment' Mr. Chogy and you, having been in the military, should be the first one to claim allegiance to that fact.
I would wager that any company that demands 16 hours a day for decades, isn't asking for commitment... they are asking for slavery.
I speak in general, not with regards to this person, this situation.
One must keep the big picture in mind... happiness comes not from material success, it comes from personal relationships, from loved ones, family and friends. Where do you place "Your company" in the following list?
- God
- Country
- Family
I'd suggest it is at the bottom. Remember the old (but very true) saying. No one has, as a tombstone epitaph - "I wish I had spent more time at work."
Find a balance. You can have it all, and not cheat your loved ones. And yes, there is a time for extreme commitment, like the military, but people know this when they join.
