Ottawa releases draft tender on purchase of new fighter jets

The more I read about this the more pissed I get. Canada has shunned the 5th generation and instead chosen to pay a hefty price, literal & figurative, for second-hand sh!t while being even more at risk of falling behind other NATO partners in pursuing new combat platforms.

And what is Canada going to do with F35? Already US and Canadian air force radars are integrated. And Canada is not going to war with anybody. Except they will send so called soldiers, who actually work at desk numbering some 100 and call it war. With useless taxes being burdened on citizens by the Liberals, I would say scrapping F35 is one of the good decisions of Trudeau.

Canada is looking at Eurofighter, F-35, F/A-18E, Gripen and Rafale,
but they are not neccessarily looking for multirole fighters.
They are looking for something that can defend the Canadian Air Space.

But buying a single role expensive fighter is stupidity.

Rafael seems good to perform many roles which Canada may need, also a carrier based version is available so if Canada wants a ACC then it will be good to have.

.
Canada should look into French Rafael's as they are potent multirole medium class 4++ gen fighters.

Too expensive. And Canada probably want it built in Canada and ToT.

.
The problem is Canada never buys European jets. Gripen is perfect fit but the excuse will be they need two engine one.

There are 2 EU twin engine birds available.

If Canada could buy the F-22, then this would be the choice, even though it is not multirole.
Canada has zero need for carriers, so that is not an argument.

Then Rafael is good option as France is ready to transfer ToT to India so it can be done to Canada too.

Gripen E but with an RM12E, instead of F414...
This would give good reliability, but would be more expensive,
which is why SAAB selected the F414.

Maybe if it was my choice but you know the Canadians want a 2 engine version.

The Canadians want the airplanes to return to base instead of going down due to engine problems.
More dual engine CF-18s has crashed due to engine problems than single engine Gripens.
So far, not a single Gripen has crashed due to engine problems.
(One recent accident still under investigation though. Aircraft crashed after hitting a bunch of cormorants, causing loss of control)

Super Hornet is best option for sure. Given TIT is trumpting support for Super Hornet, it is a good bet.

Even after all that noise regarding Bombardier?

For 88 jets, it will be very easy to create an assembly line in Canada for the Rafale. France is ready to set up an assembly line in India for just 36 jets.

The problem is Canada never buys European jets. Gripen is perfect fit but the excuse will be they need two engine one.

If the competition is fair, the Rafale will win.

If the competition is pro-American, the F-35 will win.

None of the others are real competitors.

Knowing Canadian politicians, they will try to extract best out of TIT.. they wont be politicians otherwise :)

Lets see if subs ottawa bought from Uk were any good; Aussie deal remains to be seen. Most likely they will get the Aussie jets.

Boeing lost the trade case, but the bad taste is still around. With the deal for 18 SHs cancelled, the biggest upset for Boeing will be if Canada buys 88 F-35s instead. Or the Canadians can show the finger to the US and go for a European jet.

As for me, I just hope to see a fair fighter tender in the West at least once.

True, but as we know with tenders, a decision is always already made up; the rest is just posturing.

Rafale tend to lose most competitions.
I guess they are all unfair.
